Good afternoon from sunny/rainy/inconsistent Oregon! I have decided to be happy with the weather even when it’s rainy because a) at least there is not a drought here and b) balance is nice. And everything is so green and pretty that I’d be a fool to complain. :)

What’s better than one beautiful abstract painting? Twelve beautiful abstract paintings! I really like this roundup of abstract art from Meredith C. Bullock. Instant inspiration.

Quite possibly my favorite kitchen ever. Look at those pops of color! Look at the hanging lamps! And the table. Oh my goodness…I need a house.

The other day, my friend Tara and I had a little happy hour feast downtown. The hostess was wearing a fruit-printed shirtdress by Dusen Dusen similar to the Juicy Fruit Dress above. We were obsessed. Unfortunately, it looks like the dresses in this print are all sold out. Sad times. :(

This weekend, I will be working on some CSS/Blog Design tutorials. I’d like to incorporate them into the blog consistently. Hope ya don’t mind. Happy weekend!

It’s been a really beautiful week in Portland! I am so glad that I decided to move this month instead of waiting until fall. I have already met some real sweet people and discovered new favorite places. If you’re an Instagram friend, thanks for allowing me to post like 10,000 times a day. :)

1. Spicy Grapefruit Margaritas? Don’t mind if I do.
2. It’s popsicle season! These are caramelized vanilla strawberry, greek yogurt, and honey popsicles. What the heck. So good!
3. These fudgy almond butter cups look just like the vegan peanut butter cups I would get down the street from my job in Berkeley. They are made with coconut butter sweetened with dates instead of sugar. Holy yum.
4. The Rifle Paper Co. x Hygge & West wallpaper is breathtaking. I would use them all if I could!
5. I love this aluminum chair makeover by Rachel on A Beautiful Mess. She’s been inspiring me every day with all of her pretty weavings.

How was your week? Any adventurous weekend plans? I hope so. See you next week.

Good morning! Below are two photographs I haven’t stopped thinking about for the past week.

5.16.04

Alexa Meade is an extraordinarily talented painter who paints on actual surfaces of people and objects to make 3D planes appear as 2D paintings. You can view the rest of her work here. It’s hard to believe that there are actual people in the photographs because they just look like flat paintings. Some even look more digital. Oh, and she paints on herself too. What?!

Love this blog post on infusing honey with herbs and flowers over on Henry Happened. I can’t wait to try these different recipes!

5.23.03

I am so in awe of this roundup of 10 amazing outdoor art installations on Design Sponge.

 1. I don’t know why I never thought of choosing confetti over concealer. 2. That lamb!!!

I got up earlier than usual this morning and I’m so glad. Today, I’m wrapping up a website for my friend’s photography business, sending off some clothes from Earl Grey Closet, and hopefully making time for some crochet projects. What are you up to this weekend??

Geometric Crochet Inspiration

05/20/2014 by Jennifer 4 Comments

Lately I have taken to my yarn and hook for a while. I want to be more challenged to create interesting things with yarn, going behind the simple rows of single and double crochets. Making geometric shapes is pretty simple but when it comes to stitching them all together (and weaving in those edges), it’s really necessary to have patience. I’d like to make more time to create pretty things like the following projects.

geometric-crochet

1. Knitted Scarf DIY – Ingthings
2. Isometric Blanket – Tournicote
3. Geometric Craft Project – Where is the Wonderland?
4. DIY Geometric Crochet Pillow – Caught on a Whim
5. Geometric Lace Blanket – BabyLove Brand

I just picked up a ton of yarn the other day (I didn’t need it. I will never need yarn.), but I’m letting myself off the hook because it was hot pink! Hope to share my projects with you soon. :)

Fiestas are just so vibrant and happy! How could you not love them? Unfortunately, I don’t have any plans for this year’s rapidly approaching Cinco De Mayo, but I am still putting these party ideas in the archives for a future fiesta.

3. Santa Barbara Mexican Fiesta Inspired Wedding – 100 Layer Cake
4. Fiesta Floral Doorway – Aunt Peaches
5. Mexican Fiesta Birthday Party – Hostess with the Mostess
6. Mojito Jello Shots – A Beautiful Mess

Hope you all have a festive weekend!

Hey there! Happy May! Apparently also known as the start of mosquito season. There are so many creepy crawly things that at least keep to themselves, but mosquitos are big old haters in every way. Last night, I spent the entire evening killing mosquitos. Inside of the house. Eventually there came a point when I thought it was all over. I got into bed with a glass of wine, ready to do some internet-inspiration browsing. I hadn’t been sitting down for five minutes, before I had to get up again and get rid of six more mosquitos (by jumping on/almost falling off of my bed to get the ones that were chillin’ on the ceiling). Something awfully spooky is going on in this house. Multiplying mosquitos? Nope, no thanks.

But nobody wants to talk about mosquitos – let’s look at this cutie instead:

Meet Olive! She lives in Berlin. I strongly suggest you visit this archive of Olive-tagged posts and scroll through every post. She is the most adorable french bulldog puppy I’ve ever seen! Did I mention her name is Olive? Sheesh.

5.02.01

This photograph is part of a photoshoot called Shore Thing shot by Julia Noni Photography for Wallpaper Magazine. It actually takes place in Sochi, Russia! Who woulda thought?

5.2.03

Love these geo glow lanterns from Anthropologie! The May catalog was shot in Mexico City at the home of architect Luis Barragán. Amazing. I sure would like to have access to majestic international photoshoot locations.

Speaking of traveling, have you heard of The Fresh Exchange? It is a blog run by a husband and wife who are all about traveling, designing, and embracing simplicity. I like them a lot. And I especially like this resourceful article on travel tips and tools.
