Checking In + Artful Blogging Magazine Giveaway!

08/31/2015 by Jennifer Leave a Comment

My last blog post here was over a month ago. Who am I?! I feel really free now that I’ve put Earl Grey “the blog” low on my priority, but I wanted to stop by to say hi and share a few updates.

Like I said in my last post, I went on vacation in late July/early August. It was wonderful to spend time with family and catch up with a few friends in my hometown. I’m still learning how to balance work and life now that I mostly work from home. It’s hard not to get stressed out even when my time off is planned and set aside.

I returned from vacay the first week of August and dove right into a web design project with a couple of super amazing ladies! The vision they have for their brand is beautiful and I seriously can’t wait to share everything with all of you. This project is what has been keeping me busy and inspired this month.

Over on The Blog Market, Angela and I have been working all day err day on our new design, shop, and weekly goodies for bloggers. To end the month on a good note, we’re hosting a giveaway with Artful Blogging Magazine! Angela was featured in their latest issue which is so cool (see second photo). The entire magazine seems to be full of the dreamiest, most inspiring content for bloggers.

The giveaway will run for the next week and there are a couple of different ways to enter. Click here for the deets!

How was the month of August for you? I really cannot believe it’s almost fall. It’s getting chilly enough for hot drinks and light sweaters (at least this week… you never know about Oregon weather) and I love/hate it. A couple more summery pool days need to happen before summer is “officially” over. :)

Last summer, I moved to Downtown Portland and it was way hot. Although cute and charming, there were no bodies of water, pools or air conditioning systems in sight. A couple weeks ago, I moved from the city to the suburbs (what what!) and I could not be happier. It’s so convenient (and cheap!). And there is a pool. :) This summer, I want to plan cocktail parties, throw BBQs, and do all of the cliche things that people do from June to August. Lately, my pins have been reflecting that desire.

Exhibit A – Rosemary Ginger Margarita Recipe.

Have you guys listened to Serial yet? I finally got around to it during a recent drive from CA to OR. This article includes a list of 20 addictive podcasts to help take our minds off of all the Serial cliffhangers. (Just found out the investigation is continuing through a new podcast though. Hooray!)

Ahh, spring is in the air! I just rediscovered a box of pretty felt I used to make bows with. Maybe I’ll use all the scraps to make beautiful flowers like these.

Also, about a month ago I read an incredible post on Design Sponge about negativity online. When I see negativity in the blog world, I get so bummed out. This article is long and honest and surprisingly convicting! It made me realize that by being moody or jealous of perfectly styled photos, I’m joining in on the negativity. Sheesh. Click here to read the post! It’s worth it. :)

Have a beautiful weekend! I’ll be back next week with some design project sneak peeks.

Design Spotlight | Leah Duncan

01/20/2015 by Jennifer 1 Comment

Good morning! I began this series over at The Blog Market a couple weeks ago but then decided it made more sense to carry it on here. I’m so inspired by patterns lately and have been learning Illustrator to get on the pattern bandwagon myself. So much fun! One of my favorite surface pattern designers is Leah Duncan. The way she combines colors, nature, and geometric shapes is the prettiest.

All Things Brass

01/12/2015 by Jennifer 2 Comments

Over the past couple months, I’ve developed the biggest crush on brass. At Schoolhouse Electric, I’m constantly surrounded by it and it never gets old. I’ve never been into anything in silver or nickel. Gold and brass finishes are forever the best in my book.

Sooo much stuff I love! Do you love brass, or do you have another favorite finish?

If It Were Easy, Everyone Would Do It

10/10/2014 by Jennifer 1 Comment

This quote has been on my mind all week! I may be taking it a bit out of context, but it brings to mind the many times I have passed up pursuing an idea simply because “it’s been done”. This has stopped me from following through on several projects I was originally excited about. In reality, it’s okay to be inspired by others. More importantly, we’ve got to remember that not everyone is doing it. That’s an overgeneralized statement.

If it were easy, everyone would do it.

Recently, I created something in Photoshop that I thought was way too cliche and simple. It ended up taking a really long time and even involved some strategizing. Hey-o. Not so easy.

Anyway, I took a mini blog vacay this week to work on my new project, but I’ll be back next week to share some crafts and tidbits about the new website. Have a beautiful weekend!

Schoolhouse Electric Favorites

10/07/2014 by Jennifer 5 Comments

In celebration of starting my new job at Schoolhouse Electric & Supply Co. (today!), I want to share some of my favorite products from their website. I am someone who gets tired of quirky styles very quickly so I try to only buy home items that feel classic. It’s almost like a discipline. A few months ago, I was dead set on owning a hot pink couch, but now I’m over it. See? Gotta stick with the simple stuff. Luckily, Schoolhouse Electric knows what’s up. I don’t think I will ever get tired of their timeless midcentury modern style.

Aside from beginning a new job, I am working on a new website! I’ve been dreaming it up all year long. The more I finish in the next couple of weeks, the more details I can share soon. So excited.

Talk to you soon! Have a beautiful autumn Tuesday.
