Three Breathtaking Travel Posts

08/14/2014 by Jennifer 1 Comment

I’ve been overcome with wanderlust. I can’t say that I haven’t traveled in a long time (little road trips count and living in a whole new state probably counts) but I miss getting way far away! Like out of the country or at least across the country. It’s been a while and I don’t see it happening anytime soon because things are crazy (good crazy) around here. So until traveling off yonder becomes a possibility again, I’ll live vicariously through beautiful travel photographs, each with their own story and occasionally a blog post from the traveler. Here are some travel posts that have inspired me this week.

1. Megan at The Fresh Exchange wrote a beautiful post about a trip to Madrid. It’s one of the most authentic and resonating things I’ve read in a long time. She writes that “travel simply will only bring you to a place where you have to be real with yourself.” So true.

Madrid - The Fresh Exchange

2. Bekuh Browning has been sharing a few posts about her recent trip to Puerto Rico. I just love her perspective on travel, as well as her magazine-worthy photos.

3. Wish I could have read this post by Nubby Twiglet a couple years ago when I only had 1-2 days in NYC! Guess I’ll have to go back someday.

Are you dreaming of traveling abroad too? If you have any travel-related posts, share them in the comments. I would love to read them.

ps. I’m selling clothing on my Instagram Shop, @earlgreycloset. Lots of Anthro, UO, and vintage. Follow along if you’d like! :)

Playing Favorites + Organizing Pins

08/08/2014 by Jennifer 2 Comments

You may have noticed I have been posting more home and interior inspiration. Until now, I never felt that I had a space worth decorating so I would brush off that whole category and place it in my “someday” pile. Something’s gotten into me I guess because I can’t stop thinking about home decor. It isn’t that my studio is bursting with potential. I think maybe it has something to do with the fact that I live by myself and can decorate however I want. Recently, I took my “home” Pinterest board and split it up into more specific categories. Here are some snippets of home inspiration from the new boards:

Kitchen / Open Shelving from Smitten Studio

Get Comfy / Amazing vibrant pillows from Barrington Blue.

Shine Bright, Shine Far / Lamps by Tommaso Caldera (hope you guys love and understand this category as much as I do)

Natural Light / Madelynn Furlong’s dreamy Minneapolis home tour.

Have a Seat / The cutest little cafe corner.

What do you have going on this weekend? I’ll be working, blogging, and learning Illustrator. Anybody know a secret code to make my free trial last forever? Ha.

The pineapple and watermelon departments are especially booming. Pinterest has been a sad, sad place for me lately. This week I decided to give up dairy as an experiment to see how my skin reacts. I’ve heard amazing things from people who stop eating dairy so I thought, “why not give it a try?” It’s not like I eat a lot of dairy anyway. Um, except for PIZZA. Looking through my Pinterest boards this morning, I realized that 50% of what I pin is cheese-related. I’ve spent an embarrassing amount of time in Whole Foods this week in front of cheese products, just frowning. I’m committed to my experiment though. See ya later, pizza.

Anyway, here are some of my rare non-dairy-related pins this week:

summer-berries

I’d love to have a cocktail by the pool just once this season. I feel like swimming isn’t a thing here in Portland…maybe I just don’t know the right people. / This blueberry print by Sophie Brabbins is the epitome of summer.

hepburn-kitchen

James Garner and Audrey Hepburn being adorable. / Bright open shelving and copper cookware.

weaving-necklace

Rachel Denbow is doing a weaving series on ABM and I’m so excited to try it! I believe my grandma is the most talented weaver in the world, so I’m hoping weaving is in my blood. Also, the necklace on the right is so beautiful. Picked it up from Anthro yesterday.

What are you guys up to this weekend? Dairy-free peeps, feel free to leave me some advice! :)

I’m really glad end-of-the-week roundups are a thing because sometimes I so desperately want to blog a ton of non-categorized, wonderful gems found on Pinterest and around the interwebs. Yay Fridays! Here we go…

How brilliant is this vibrant floral installation by Rebecca Louise Law?

Teal-colored couches are catching my eye every day it seems. My dad brought an oatmeal-colored loveseat up to Portland for me and I’m thankful to finally have somewhere comfortable to sit. Just have to find a good slipcover now! Unfortunately, I’ll probably have to stick with a neutral color (I’m thinking white) because I’m non-committal about colors. But at least that way I’ll be able to have more fun choosing pillows.

‘Tis the season for s’mores! I’m missing the days when I had a fire pit (and a patio space in general). I’d be content with making s’mores over my little stovetop though. Especially these fancy s’mores. Anybody wanna come over and eat them with me? Like right now.

Okay, I have saved the very best for last. I’m allowed to play favorites because, well ya know… Anyway, I am super into the illustration project Instamissimo that Asia Pietrzyk started earlier this year. She finds noteworthy instagram photos, illustrates them, and sometimes even turns them into gifs. SO good.

I’m going to spend the weekend catching up on my Mastering Your DSLR workshop (it’s amazing, btw) and getting things together around my studio. I have furniture now but other than that, it still looks like I just moved in. Yikes.

See you next week!

Watercolor crafts are always an A+ in my book mostly because they’re hard to mess up! Even a terrible painter like myself can splash some water and color on a page and end up with something delightful. Here are a few watercolor-inspired projects that I would try in a heartbeat.
