Crochet Turban Headband Pattern in Shop

10/16/2014 by Jennifer Leave a Comment

My Etsy shop has gone through many phases but I have had pattern-making on my mind for a while now. I’ve realized my passion isn’t in crocheting things and selling them but rather in providing resources (in this case, patterns). Last night, I added a PDF crochet pattern of this turban headband to my shop. Yay!

To all of you who crochet, I hope you enjoyed my tiny flowers crochet pattern a couple months ago! That was fun to write. I’ve stepped up my game a little in this next pattern, providing more details, images, etc. Check out the listing here for more information.

Coming soon is a pattern for my crochet slouchy beanie. Any requests on different styles?

I hope you all are having a great week!

Happy Fall Giveaway

09/23/2014 by Jennifer 3 Comments

Good morning and Happy Fall! To those of you who stuck it out and waited to celebrate until the “official” first day of fall, high five! To those who went ahead and celebrated fall on the 1st of September, I don’t blame you. There is nothing quite like the first rainy day after (or sometimes during) summer. Or the first time needing to bring a sweater outside. Or the first chai latte. Fall is magical.

Happy Fall Giveaway | Earl Grey Blog

Today, Angela of If Found, Make and I are teaming up for a very special giveaway. If you haven’t met Angela yet, she is the owner of Garden and Sea, an Etsy shop full of beautiful hand crocheted accessories. She also blogs at If Found, Make, where she shares everything from DIY projects to resources for creatives. Over the weekend, I traveled to LA and was able to meet up with Angela for coffee! We decided that a great way to welcome fall would be to give away some cozy fall essentials.

One lucky winner is going to receive a large crocheted infinity scarf in grey from Angela and a crocheted slouchy beanie in taupe from me (as seen in the photos above). There are six different ways to enter using the Rafflecopter widget below. The giveaway will run until midnight on Wednesday October 1st. Good luck! :)

Tiny Flowers Crochet Pattern

06/23/2014 by Jennifer 11 Comments

This is the first of what I hope will be many shared crochet patterns. Whether you are a beginner or an expert in the crochet language, this tiny flower pattern should be pretty simple. If you’re not into the fiber arts, I’ll be back tomorrow with something totally unrelated to old lady crafts. ;)

I love using this pattern because it only requires one round. You can either begin with a magic circle or chain 4 and slip stitch to the first chain, to create a regular circle. I prefer using a magic circle because it gives you more control over how big or small you’d like the beginning circle to be. It will allow you to close the circle and get rid of the remaining hole in the center of the flower. A great tutorial can be found here.

Special Stitch: dc2tog – (yarn over, insert hook into designated space and pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through two loops) x 2, yarn over, pull through last three loops.

1. Begin with a magic circle (alternatively, chain 4 and slipstitch to the first chain, forming a loop).
2. *ch 2, dc2tog, ch 2, slip stitch into center of circle; repeat from * 5 times to create five petals.
3. Slip stitch to the first chain you made in Step 2. Fasten off, pull beginning tail of the magic circle to tighten the center and weave in the edges.

Go on and make a garden. Tiny flowers on everything!

ps. While I will be sharing many free patterns here on the blog, I’m also dipping my feet in the world of selling patterns. Before I list any patterns to sell, I would love to have each one tested by one or two crocheters. You would receive the pattern for free, crochet the item, and give me your honest feedback about the pattern structure. Email me if you’re interested! :)

Geometric Crochet Inspiration

05/20/2014 by Jennifer 4 Comments

Lately I have taken to my yarn and hook for a while. I want to be more challenged to create interesting things with yarn, going behind the simple rows of single and double crochets. Making geometric shapes is pretty simple but when it comes to stitching them all together (and weaving in those edges), it’s really necessary to have patience. I’d like to make more time to create pretty things like the following projects.

1. Knitted Scarf DIY – Ingthings
2. Isometric Blanket – Tournicote
3. Geometric Craft Project – Where is the Wonderland?
4. DIY Geometric Crochet Pillow – Caught on a Whim
5. Geometric Lace Blanket – BabyLove Brand

I just picked up a ton of yarn the other day (I didn’t need it. I will never need yarn.), but I’m letting myself off the hook because it was hot pink! Hope to share my projects with you soon. :)

headbands & coffee dates

01/15/2012 by Jennifer 3 Comments

Yesterday, Alissa and I got together for coffee and an Etsy photo date. This girl wears headbands like nobody else, and her hair is probably my favorite.

These are some of the new headbands in my shop! More will come as soon as I retrieve my sewing machine at home (aka, I don’t like sewing on buttons).

This week has been full of the most amazing coffee dates with some wonderful people. There are two days left of my month-long winter break and I’m hoping that I can find time during the semester to have meaningful get togethers, to stay inspired, and to make things…amidst all the projects and papers that will inevitably come my way.

And I hope I keep blogging. This is becoming such a discipline! I have a lot on my mind and heart… Reflections. Ideas. Goals. But they are staying on the inside for now.

Baby steps :)

resolutions & inspiration

01/03/2012 by Jennifer 4 Comments

It is only the third day of the year and already a big gust of change is being blown my way. Most of it is internal change, as I am beginning to think more about life after college. I think graduating is such a stressful thought because there are so many possibilities that it feels overwhelming. It’s not that we’re stuck without anything to do. Deciding what to do is the issue.

First, I definitely need a job. Last weekend, I paid for my tuition which was a wakeup call. Then, Anthropologie called me yesterday and told me they wouldn’t be keeping me. I felt sort of disappointed but mostly relieved… funny how your dream job can become such an unideal workplace. It was great experience though and I had some wonderful interactions with customers. Now I’m looking for another opportunity.
The other day, I mentioned that my New Year’s resolution is to “commit.” So far I think it’s going really well! My mom and I have decided to work out every day of January, which feels amazing. Goodness. Sometimes I forget about those endorphins. Also, Etsy is starting….now…ish. I just have to figure out shipping rates.
Here are some of the completed items that will be in the shop:
Does anyone else have exciting New Year’s resolutions? (Even if they are as vague as mine, haha)
PS. I have been way out of the loop in the blog world. Like hundreds of posts behind. Maybe I should add that to my resolution list…
