Twenty-Three

11/16/2013 by Jennifer 13 Comments

It’s my birthday! This morning I could not get out of bed…last night was too much fun! When I did finally get up, I went over to my grandma’s house for lunch. It was lovely. My mom and her friend should be visiting soon, and then I’ll celebrate officially with a birthday dinner and dessert tonight with my old and new roomies. For some reason I was thinking it would be fun to blog and crochet all day during my birthday, but I think I’m giving myself the day off. I’m still trying to wake up… :)

But speaking of blogging and crocheting. One of my favorite parts of this past year has been working on Earl Grey and meeting lots of really sweet people. It’s finally feeling like a real commitment with potential to grow. I’m super thankful and I have true warm fuzzies. :)

Happy Birthday Adalin!

08/29/2013 by Jennifer 1 Comment

See, August really is the month of all birthdays! Today, my other sister Adalin turns ten. Oh my gosh, I have so many things I want to say about her.

(this is a picture from about two years ago, but I thought it was too cute not to post)

Until I was twelve, I was an only child. I expected it to be that way forever (though I did secretly very publicly hope that I had a long lost identical twin out there in Europe). One night, my dad sat me down and said he had to tell me something and my sisters’ mom and him, and I blurted out, “She’s having a baby!!!” And then all of my dreams came true. I mean, I guess it’s okay that Adalin isn’t my twin.
This girl! Where do I begin? I think the first thing people notice about her is that she’s brilliant. Seriously. Sometimes when I’m talking, she reminds me of more complex words I could be using. She is like a real-life thesaurus. When Adalin was around three or four years old, she declared that she wanted to be a dentist. It is still her dream job and she is very serious about it. I mentioned this before, but two summer’s ago I taught her how to crochet, thinking that she wouldn’t really understand it. The next time I saw her, she had made a headband and a belt for Danali. Then she started on a blanket. The other day, she gave my mom an embroidered iPhone cozy. It is all just insane.

I’d say that she is the kind of kid I wish I had been. I was smart and everything, but I was super awkward. Adalin is so cool. Like, if I were in fifth grade, I’d want to be her friend so badly. She writes amazing stories, does crazy flips in the air, learns every cool dance move – she is the bee’s knees!

In addition to being super smart and cool, Adalin has the most empathy I’ve ever seen in someone her age. Once we were playing with the sprinklers and pretending it was raining. She started singing, “It’s raining it’s pouring, the old man is snoring…” but she got super unsettled at that part where it says that he couldn’t get up in the morning. I told her the old man was just tired, and she just shook her head and said, “I don’t think so”. Oh my gosh! She is a deep lady… maybe a little too deep.

Everyone who meets her knows that there is something special about her. She’s unbelievable really. Happy, happy birthday to my dear Adalin! I love you so stinking much.

help! i need blog advice…

01/27/2012 by Jennifer 5 Comments

For the past few weeks, I have felt a little conflicted about my blog name. Should I change it to The Honey Haven to match my shop? Jenny Igloo will always be my nickname… but it’s something no one gets until they hear the story behind it. A really good story, by the way :) And as I told my best friend Sara earlier, “why should ‘Jenny Igloo’ be surrounded by bees?” Unfortunately it just doesn’t make sense.

What do you think?

thehoneyhaven.blogspot.com? I thought a day like this might come, so I coined the url months ago haha.

My blog is less than a year old so I don’t want to be wishy washy. But at the same time, my idea of “The Honey Haven” shop came along about a year ago as well. I am leaning towards changing it for the sake of consistency. I don’t want to be hasty, but I would like to change it soonish. By February.

Okay I’m done with my rambles. Let me know what you think :)

PS. Regardless of a name change, I think I’d like to give my blog a makeover soon. Just because I feel like playing on photoshop.

post college goals: coffee supplies.

01/19/2012 by Jennifer 5 Comments

I have some serious and not-so-serious goals for after I graduate. I think this could even become a regular blog series for the next few months, because there are sooo many things I want to do! (Just don’t expect me to elaborate on career plans.)

First, I am going to stock up on some good quality coffee supplies:

Look at these! They’re beautiful.
Unfortunately, they are only available in white or grey.

Ahhh! Love.

Besides having yummy coffee, I want a french press so I can make cozies for it…
I also would like to get myself a Chemex. In time.

I look forward to the mornings where coffee will not be associated with getting me out of the door, but rather with peaceful, quiet times. Unless I have morning job.

Side Note(s):

A few big things have changed in the past month! One of them has to do with my internship. I was going to intern at an arts and crafts center nearby, but that fell through. Now, I am interning in my hometown at the elementary school I went to. My mom works there, and I will be under the supervision of our family friend, Jane. Yay! It is so convenient.

Every Thursday, I will plan to go home (way to be involved during my last semester…) for a night or two. I hope to use this time to catch up on reading for classes or to make things for my shop.

Secondly… I mentioned photographing a wedding in France for my lovely friends. Sadly, that is falling through as well. On the bright side, I have been asked to photograph another wedding later this year and I’m going to be in twwwwoooo weddings! AHHH! I can’t tell you how excited that makes me. I love weddings.

And lastly, I’m sponsoring Bubby and Bean next month! Melissa’s blog is one of my favorites. This means I need to get my shop going… Expect new and exciting additions next week :)

resolutions & inspiration

01/03/2012 by Jennifer 4 Comments

It is only the third day of the year and already a big gust of change is being blown my way. Most of it is internal change, as I am beginning to think more about life after college. I think graduating is such a stressful thought because there are so many possibilities that it feels overwhelming. It’s not that we’re stuck without anything to do. Deciding what to do is the issue.

First, I definitely need a job. Last weekend, I paid for my tuition which was a wakeup call. Then, Anthropologie called me yesterday and told me they wouldn’t be keeping me. I felt sort of disappointed but mostly relieved… funny how your dream job can become such an unideal workplace. It was great experience though and I had some wonderful interactions with customers. Now I’m looking for another opportunity.
The other day, I mentioned that my New Year’s resolution is to “commit.” So far I think it’s going really well! My mom and I have decided to work out every day of January, which feels amazing. Goodness. Sometimes I forget about those endorphins. Also, Etsy is starting….now…ish. I just have to figure out shipping rates.
Here are some of the completed items that will be in the shop:
Does anyone else have exciting New Year’s resolutions? (Even if they are as vague as mine, haha)
PS. I have been way out of the loop in the blog world. Like hundreds of posts behind. Maybe I should add that to my resolution list…

sunday snapshots: labor day weekend

09/04/2011 by Jennifer 3 Comments

Happy Labor Day Weekend! I am not taking a trip to the beach this weekend, but if I were, I would want it to look a little something like this.

Carefree, with cute shoes and a hat.

Instead, I am doing something equally fun – house sitting all weekend long with two of my lovely roommates. Tonight, we are having people over for pool time and a BBQ!
Currently, I am mastering the art of being productive and relaxing at the same time. It’s nice to read interesting textbooks while lying on a comfy couch, with no worries of tests or deadlines. That is, until Tuesday rolls around.
Hope everyone is enjoying this Sunday afternoon :)
