summertime countdown! | sf outside lands

04/17/2012 by Jennifer Leave a Comment

Hello! Today, I am in the happiest mood. First, I found some wonderful vintage dresses yesterday (I’ll blog about them soon. Really). Secondly, I woke up to the newly announced Outside Lands music festival lineup, which I have been waiting for, forever! It is always a hit or miss kind of thing. Last year, I went with my friend Katie, mainly to see my favorite lady Cat Power. She was wonderful. But the rest of the bands weren’t my favorites.

Guess who is going to be there this summer?? Stevie Wonder!

My roommate Steph and I joked about making it a life goal to see him. So, I am going to make that happen this summer. Woohoo!
Other people I am excited to see include:
The lovely Regina Spektor.
Bloc Party. So many memories.
There are so many other good bands playing, but these are the ones I’m most excited to see :) It will be a great time. Now I just have to hope these three are playing on the same day so that I can just buy a one day ticket.

summertime countdown! | pleated maxi skirts

04/09/2012 by Jennifer 6 Comments

Summer is right around the corner! Well, technically it is a few months away, but I will be graduating and entering the big world in about one month. That will be when my summer begins. When I think of summer, I think of traveling and drinking lemonade and going to music festivals. And all of those things will be happening :)

Lately, I am also dreaming about flowy pleated maxi skirts. I want tons of them!

Aren’t they beautiful??

The other day, Kat found this wonderful skirt at a thrift store.

So there is hope in thrifting pretty maxi skirts. I don’t know who would throw out such a great piece of clothing, but I’d like to thank them :)

meet kat!

04/06/2012 by Jennifer 2 Comments

Hello everyone!

My name is Kat, I am so thrilled to start blogging with my very dear friend Jenn.  So here is just a little bit about me. I love vintage clothing, it has been something that has been indwelt into my very being since I was a girl.  You will also rarely see me without coffee in my hand.  Caffeine must run through my veins at all times or else it could lead to cataclysmic disasters.

I am convinced that there is no better sensation then finding a little sixties dress in just your size.  For me Earl Grey is more than just scheming about a dream shop and opening an Etsy store, it’s what I love to do.  I normally can’t go more than two days without a visit to a thrift store looking for a unique find.

Wearing vintage clothing allows me to express my personality, to mix a little old with the new.  I would say that one of my favorite things to collect is old fashioned salt and pepper shakers.  I will have to take some pictures soon of my collection, I stumbled upon these beauties today and I just love them.

My grandma used to take me thrifting and she would call it “la guage.” It has a nice French ring to it doesn’t it?  I adopted the phrase throughout my junior high and high school years “thrifting” was frowned upon by my peers, others made me feel ashamed of my clothes and my hobby.

But now I am so comfortable in my skin regardless of what I’m wearing.  And it’s always fun to look back at the people who made fun of your clothes when styles roll right back around and you find them wearing the same exact thing.  Well I’m of to go shopping at la guage, happy thrifting my friends!

puppy therapy

04/04/2012 by Jennifer 9 Comments

Yesterday, I took pictures of eleven puppies for Helping Orphaned Hounds, a non-profit organization in Arizona that works toward finding loving homes for homeless dogs and puppies. They are going to let people bid on these puppies to give them names!

So sweet! If only I could take one back to California… :)

spring break, part one

04/02/2012 by Jennifer 1 Comment

Hey! I’m in Arizona this week, for the first time (excluding the airport). My spring break has been pretty lovely so far. Except that I’m sick and had the most bummer of a flight ever. I think I am getting better though. :)

I began my spring break by scouting out beautiful houses in Davis with my future roommate Sara. This one is unfortunately not for sale. What a dreeeaam house, right??

Sara and I went to the Co-op on a hunt for some chocolate. So many choices!

On Friday at my internship, I read The Honeybee Man to my mom’s first grade students. She bought this book in Portland last fall. It is so good. As I read it, I interrupted myself a bunch of time to add anecdotes about bees :) how I love them.

The other night, I started to crave lemonade like nobody’s business. So I made some! We have connections with lemon tree owners.

Now, I am in Arizona, staying in this fantastic mother-in-law suite. I was going to sleep in the regular house, but I was so sneezy and germy that this became a better idea.
Oh, and! There are tons of puppies here! My roommate’s sister is a foster parent for some very cute dogs. This lady’s name is Java:

Well, I’ve been inside all day. Time to go out and be a part of the world :)
