Thrifted

01/24/2013 by Jennifer 11 Comments

My thrifting adventures last week were everything I had hoped for and more. I found tons of beautiful fabric scraps and squares, as well as larger pieces for larger projects. Sewing, like my tripod, is another frenemy of mine. But I want to get good at it and make everything in the world. We’ll see how that goes…

This is not even a third of the fabric from a giant bag I found. I separated the patterns I liked from the ones I didn’t care for. There were many patterns that weren’t so cute, but the whole bag was $5 so I can’t complain.

These teacups were $2 each at an antique mall, but I could’ve sworn I saw them at another vendor for $22. Hey-o. :) I also thrifted the tablecloth.

I rejoiced about this one for quite while. It was $5 and it just looks so Anthro/makes me want to make aprons forever. Somebody teach me?

This tea towel calendar is labeled with the years 1822 and 1974, but I realized the day/dates are the same as this year! Hooray!

More beautiful fabric! These are the larger pieces I was talking about. Boy, do I have plans for these.

How adorable are these salt and pepper shakers? I purchased them for $3 at an antique store. I love when antique stores have thrifty prices.

And last but not least, a Helen Keller book for a dollar!  Because she is wonderful. It’s going straight to the top of my reading list.

I’m really excited about all of these. This may have been one of my favorite thrifting/antiquing outings ever.

Have you thrifted anything great treasures lately?

happy 2013! (resolutions & other goals)

01/03/2013 by Jennifer 9 Comments

Last year, my resolution was “to commit”. I thought it would be the easiest because it is such a vague thing. However, it ended up being a confusing resolution because I didn’t know what I should or shouldn’t commit to (jobs, activities, how to spend my time, etc). I went through the year not committing to much. Yikes. Maybe vague resolutions aren’t the way to go when you’re a scatterbrained college graduate.

My resolutions this year are centered around physical, emotional, and spiritual health. They have a lot to do with exercising, being thankful, leaving some stuff in 2012, taking lots of baths (yeah…I like to challenge myself.), staying creative, and getting involved where I live. I can’t wait to experience the beauty and growth of this new year. I could go further in depth, but that might turn this into a diary rather than a blog. ;)

In addition to resolutions, I have many businessy goals, which I like to think of as a whole different thing. I would like to begin focusing on one project or product at a time to avoid my craft A.D.D. that results in nothing getting accomplished. I also hope to meet and work with a lot of people with similar interests.

Happy New Year! What are your hopes for 2013?

ps. I think it is going to take me a whole year to get used to writing “2013” instead of “2012”.

new years eve in nyc

12/27/2012 by Jennifer 13 Comments

This (early) morning, a couple of friends and I are off to New York City! We’re staying in New Jersey first for a while which should also be fun.

I won’t be blogging for the next week, just exploring lots and lots of places and hopefully seeing Carly Rae Jepsen in Times Square (what…?). I will definitely be documenting the trip through handy Instagram.

Have a happy New Year!

Also, please leave any NYC suggestions :)

happy fourth of july!

07/04/2012 by Jennifer 3 Comments

Happy fourth of July! I’m not the most patriotic person in the world… I mean I love this beautiful country and the freedom it offers, but you won’t find me decked out in red, white, and blue anytime soon. Although, the other day while I was working out (yeah, I still do that!!) I realized I was wearing a white top and bright blue shorts, and using red weights. I felt silly and also found it to be appropriate attire for a week such as this one :)

Still, there are a few red, white, and blue gems I might consider purchasing.

(one, two, three)
This year, I’m not doing too much to celebrate. We usually watch fireworks and sky dancers from the greenbelt behind my grandma’s house, so we will head over there later.

Hope everyone who is celebrating has a bright and happy day :)
