found and treasured friday: babies, yarn, & serenity

11/12/2011 by Jennifer 2 Comments

Isn’t it wonderful when you come across photos that include a bunch of your favorite things together? Well, I like babies and I like yarn. Today, while pinning, I found these beautiful photos by Reverie.

Oh my goodness. I feel inspired to crochet a ton and take a bunch of pictures (gloomy weather = beautiful lighting). Most of all though, I feel like being around an actual baby. I haven’t seen my new niece Lailah since she was born. A trip home is long overdue. But I am feeling so busy!

Do you ever feel like you’re doing a bunch of things you love, but all of them combined are just overwhelming? That is how I feel right now. Nothing is terrible. I love my classes. I love thinking about grad school or other future plans. I love blogging. And spending time with friends. But even if I am doing things that I enjoy, I still feel busy.

Yesterday, in the middle of my classes and my internship, I went to a cozy Starbucks in a town where I don’t know anyone. There was a fireplace and Mumford & Sons started playing in the background. And I just sat there for five minutes with my gingerbread chai. It was so perfect! How often do you go to a coffee shop to just sit by yourself? Not read. Not write. Not talk to anyone.

May I have another opportunity in the near future to do that again :)

instagram: can’t stop, won’t stop

11/11/2011 by Jennifer 2 Comments

I try not to post too much on the internet. Whether it’s Facebook, Twitter, Blogspot… I don’t want to be that girl. But some days, everything feels worth sharing! And I especially have this problem on Instagram. I used to be completely anti-Instagram. Who needs overly edited square shaped photos? Why not use a real camera? Then came along the iPhone 4s and I became that girl. Oh geez.

Meanwhile, my actual camera sits in the corner of my room. I think it is literally on the floor. It hasn’t gotten out much this season, but all of that is about to change because I am photographing a wedding next summer!

In FRANCE!

Let the inspiration begin now :)

More on this later. I’m so excited!!!

cozy

Finally, the weather has been chilly for more than a day! It makes me want to stay indoors with blankets and a good, non school-related book. Last night, my roommates and I watched Date Night and enjoyed cider and pumpkin souffles. Yum! This weekend should be full of more of those things, in addition to a ton of homework.

one, two, three, four, five
Today, I was supposed to start at Anthro officially, but it didn’t work out :( I am so bummed! I guess I should see it as a blessing though, since I need all of the time I can get to study and write papers before next week.

celebrating november

11/03/2011 by Jennifer 2 Comments

November means many things to me. Mostly, it reminds me of the confetti, frosting, and princess parties since that is how I used to spend each November 15th. This year, I will be celebrating by seeing Feist in the city and wine tasting.

Other reasons why I am excited about this month:

True sweater weather,
when it’s brisk outside for more than a day.

(source unknown)

Thanksgiving

While we shouldn’t need an annual reminder to be thankful, Thanksgiving Day naturally reminds us of life’s blessings. I am thankful for so many things.

Hibernation in cozy coffee shops.

Broadacre opened recently in Downtown Sacramento. Two words: Lavender Latte.

Also, a baby to hang out with.

Miss Lailah who you met the other day!
And these shoes. Oh, yes.
My last purchase before my no-spend November promise. I’m only buying essentials for a while. Tough to do when you work at Anthro for the season…
Happy November to you! May it be all kinds of wonderful.

welcome to the world, lailah

Yesterday, I skipped the Halloween festivities and held a precious baby instead. My niece!

She is going to have the time of her life hanging out with my little sisters :) Now, I have to finish this blanket, among other things.

Oh, babies. They are so wonderful.
PS. I did dress up for a split second. What kind of ears are these? Definitely not cat ears.

blog design: image mapping

10/31/2011 by Jennifer 1 Comment

Last night, I was searching for cute social media buttons but I couldn’t find any that I loved. And then I thought…hexagons! Of course. So I made these little hexagons using photoshop and honeycomb textures from Pugly Pixel.

There are a bunch of image mapping tutorials on the internet, but I’m not so savvy in that way, so I used an image map generator to link the hexagons. That is why you’ll see a bright blue lopsided outline if you click one of the links.

Ta da! I’m so excited about this. I even included a link to Etsy. Do I have a shop? Nope. Do I want to have a shop? Yeessss. Hopefully really soon.
