a week of successful antiquing

01/11/2012 by Jennifer Leave a Comment

I have had my fair share of bad luck when it comes to antique shopping. Once I bought an amazing typewriter for $25. It isn’t exactly usable right now, but it makes for a great decoration.

However! The past week has been filled with great antiquing adventures sometimes by myself and sometimes with my dear friend Charissa. We have found a ton of well-priced items and we have had to hold each other accountable to not buying everything in the store.

Yesterday, I finally started my Pyrex collection:

It’s perfect.

Another important note…

Today I spent a part of my afternoon with my really wonderful friend Alyssa. We talked about blogging – the personal side and the professional side. It has always been hard for me to share my heart in a blog, even just a little. But give me a paper and a pen, and I will write for hours. Alyssa reminded me that blogging and crafting is something I have to do for myself.

Whatever you love… you shouldn’t do for anyone else. For me it might be crafts. For others it might be something different. All I know is that if you are doing what you love, but you’re not doing it for your own well being, you will love it less.

With that being said, I would like to blog more and perhaps share my heart a little more.

merry, merry christmas!

12/26/2011 by Jennifer 2 Comments

I hope everyone is having an amazing day with family and friends. We’re at my aunt’s cottage right now. There’s a cute little tree full of ornaments that my mom made for us. (Post-Christmas ornament blog coming soon!!) Last night, I fell asleep on the hide-a-bed with a wood stove fire to my right and the lit up tree to my left. This cottage holds my most peaceful memories.

Goodness, I haven’t blogged in forever. I would like to start again. Here’s to a new year with thirteen units and a lot of free time. And inspiration too!

Christmas time re-cap

We made handmade ornaments this year!
Last week, I had some good time with the sisters on Candy Cane Lane :)
I worked SO much this week! All day on Christmas Eve.
It turned out to be really great though. Everyone was cheery :)
My aunt and uncle’s cozy house.
My Christmas outfit
This season brings up so many thoughts of Linda. It’s our first Christmas without her.
But she’s happy and I know she’s here somehow…

I really need to stop with the abrupt blog recaps where I basically repeat my instagrams and tweets. I am looking forward to a few more weeks of wintery bliss. Sleep, occasional work, some crafts, reading, and blogging.

Anyway, praise the Lord for this beautiful day to celebrate his birth.

Merry Christmas :)

finals week hiatus

12/14/2011 by Jennifer 2 Comments

Happy Finals Week! I would like to be blogging (really blogging) right now, but all I can think of are my Biopsych and Psych Testing finals. I am working on memorizing agonistic and antagonist drug effects while crocheting. It sounds like a bad idea, but I think the info is sinking in.

Here’s a little bit of what my week has looked like, minus the studying:

Got to see my dear sisters on Sunday, before I left home. Ahhh. They are the best!
Anthro had a huge sweater sale. And then another big sale. And another one. Goodbye, money.
My felt from FeltOnTheFly arrived! 100% wool and ready to turn into pretty things.
I purchased a really great pattern to make a knit-like headband. Almost done :)
Now, I’m sitting in the library, which is surprisingly quiet.
The library water is my favorite ever. It’s soooo great! So I am enjoying that.
Small joys.

In a week and a half, I’ll be done with the first half of my last year of college :) That will leave me with a month to crochet, intern, and work (I hoooppppee) at Anthro! This week I have real hours. Thank goodness.
Also, Project Etsy is still underway. I wish I could have gotten it going before Christmas time because I wanted to make cute stockings, ornaments, etc. Oh well. Springtime is full of such fun holidays. Plus around here, it’s rainy and freezing during the spring, so my chunky infinity scarves will come in handy :)

may your days be merry and bright

12/05/2011 by Jennifer 1 Comment

It has been December for a few days now, so a celebratory post is overdue. November is my favorite month in the world… but here we are! So I’m making the best of this colorful month. Here are some things that are making me thankful for December:

this is where i live :) cute yellow on-campus apartments with lights everywhere!!

in SFG today, we made these snowflakes out of coffee filters and pretty paper

advent calendar chocolates are so good! i like when i accidentally skip a few days and then catch up all at once.
and these are my parents. yes, my dad is Santa.
As soon as December arrived, I started using my new planner!

It is the same as my old planner, but smaller and more persimmon :)

December also has me thinking about Lord, who is on my mind often but not often enough. It’s a strange season. A mix of dark and light, poverty and riches, sadness and joy. Focusing on Jesus during the holidays helps me to get past all of the overwhelming feelings Christmas evokes. I love Christmas lights and trees and exchanging gifts, but I also like to just hang out with my family and friends with hot drinks in our hands :)

etsy: coming (real) soon

12/01/2011 by Jennifer 5 Comments

For way too long, I have been talking about opening an Etsy shop. And that time has almost come! I’m so excited, but also nervous that I won’t have time to keep it up. Praise the Lord for a month long Christmas break, huh? In just two and a half weeks, I will have survived the semester.

Lately, I am choosing yarn and Hulu over upcoming projects and finals. Here are a few things I’ve been working on. Due to the sudden blustery weather and lack of light in my apartment, I bring them to you Instagram style. Here is what I’ll be putting in my shop soon:
Especially made for my roomie Sara

I gave this one to Steph, and she named it Best Friend. :)
My shop has been pending since the beginning of summer. Who knew that having an account, without selling anything, could result in meeting so many wonderful crafters? I have learned that everyone experiences creative burnouts and that crafty ups and downs are not as trivial as I thought.
Thanks for being so encouraging, Etsy friends :)
