thrifted thursday

02/23/2012 by Jennifer 2 Comments

Good morning! I have been finding some wonderful things at thrift/antique stores this past week.

This little box is darling. I knew I had to have it as soon as I found it :)

A camera case! For $8

These fabric scraps were 10 for $0.25. I also really loved the floral trim, although I don’t know what I will do with it.

More to come next Thursday :)

whirlwind

Again and again, I have learned that when you try to do a million things at once, you don’t get anything done. Sometimes (or all the time), I have to sit back and breathe. In three months, I’ll graduate and have all the time in the world to do crafty things and to work toward my vintage shop goals. I will also be in a real house with natural light and places to take better pictures of products. Yay!

Right now I am taking another e-course from Red Velvet called Dream Job. What an appropriate name, huh?

Anyway, although I’ve been a little scattered, I have had time for a couple of things – pinning and thrifting! These are some of my favorite pins this week. Soon I’ll post the huge amount of thrifty goodies I have found lately. :)

Are you sensing a theme here? I am in a complete vintage dress mood. And I’ve come across some good ones :) In the next few weeks, I hope to have them hemmed, fixed up, and ready to start selling. My Etsy shop will soon be handmade and vintage. Hooray!

At this moment, I’m experiencing a feeling of bliss due to the fact that it’s still light out and I am not busy. Maybe I should be doing something school-related, but I am going to take this time to catch up on some crafty goals. In fact, I just cleared off my whole desk to take pictures of my new thrifted items! Someday… someday I’ll have a big blank wall, or a nice table for product photos. But for now, my desk will work just fine.

dream job

02/18/2012 by Jennifer 4 Comments

Last month, I decided my new year’s resolution was going to be to commit. I didn’t fully understand it, but I’m starting to figure out what it means to me.

This year, I have had one thing on my mind – owning a vintage and handmade boutique. I think it has been pushed to the front of my mind because of this season of graduating/job hunting/those haunting questions about the future. Selling vintage and handmade goods in an actual store is one of those things…a typical “dream job.” At least it’s my dream job. But I have pushed it under the rug, being slightly self-depricating all the while. When I talk about it, I usually say things like, “but it isn’t a big deal” or “maybe someday in the far future…”

However, lately I have been super open about the fact that this is something I want to do…and will do :) A lot of responses I get from people are along the lines of, “Oh Jenn…” or “Well yeah! Wouldn’t everyone like to do that?”

And then there are the really, really encouraging responses. And I love those. My parents have been so supportive, since they’ve had to deal with my obsession for years. I am so thankful to have a business-savvy father and a mom who shares my same vision.

I’m hesitant to dive into an opportunity like this because there are a lot of what-ifs, and also, there is that small detail that I am studying Psychology. Not Business. Not Design. Not Visual Communications. But I wouldn’t trade what I have learned, and I believe that running a business will depend greatly on a whole lot of interpersonal skills.

I don’t know when any of this will unfold, but I am just going for it because I have a vision that’s been unfolding for quite some time and I am soooo excited about it! Oh my goodness. I can’t wait at all. I’m working on getting a seller’s permit so I can start selling wholesale vintage. I am also looking into a location. I have drawn a bunch of pictures of what I want the shop to look like, and there is even a name :)

I think about this probably 60% of every day. And soon it’ll be a reality.

happy valentine’s day!

02/14/2012 by Jennifer Leave a Comment

I love today. Maybe it’s just any other day. Maybe there really is something in the air. All I know is that I feel a warmth in my heart even though I am currently blogging in the freezing cold and windy shade. I never post outfits, but I think I’m going to start making it a thing. Most of it is a discipline, because I love clothes, but I never wear what’s really in my closet. Today I slept in and skipped my first class because I truly believed it was the right thing to do (no logical explanation there). Then I took some time to get ready…a rare thing, lately.

It is going to be a good day! Right now, I am going to visit my friend and her baby. And tonight my roommate and I are visiting our friend and we’re going to have our own Valentine’s Day party with grapefruit cocktails and baked goods. Oh, and Thai food! I hope :)
As a Valentine’s gift to my blog friends, I would like to share one of my favorite songs ever – “My Repair” by Jason Scavone and Brandi Carlile. I first heard it on Starbuck’s Valentine CD last year. Listen to it and let your heart melt…

valentine’s day cards

02/13/2012 by Jennifer 3 Comments

This is the first Valentine’s Day “season” that I haven’t really done much. I almost didn’t make cards! Tomorrow, I am just going to bake with my best friend Sara and probably watch shows and laugh a lot.

In my craft group this morning, I thought we should make Valentines. This is what I came up with:

Super simple, but still fun. With paint chips, the possibilities are seriously endless :)

post college goals: become an early bird

02/11/2012 by Jennifer 5 Comments

I live with seven girls in an apartment. Going to bed early and waking up early never works out for me, not because things are too loud, but because hanging out in the living room with my roommates is too fun! Last year, my friend Ashley and I admitted that we don’t like going to bed before each other. It’s so sad, but so true. I also prefer to sleep in complete silence so even that voice in my head saying, “Everyone’s having fun out there!” would probably keep me up.

But someday, I’ll go to bed whenever I want.

Mornings are so beautiful, and I wish it was natural for me to get up an hour before I need to – to enjoy the beautiful sunrise, make breakfast, blog, etc.

As unrealistic as it may be, I feel like when I graduate I’ll be able to work all day (and by work, I mean craft, because someday that will be my work) and go to sleep by 10pm, ready for a bright, beautiful morning. I guess we’ll see!
