Holiday Gift Guide | For the Hostess

12/09/2013 by Jennifer 4 Comments

Finding the right gift for a hostess is really kind of fun! In my opinion. If you know a little bit about your hostess friend’s style, there are a lot of different ways to pick out personal gifts. Maybe she enjoys making cocktails or maybe she is a spectacular baker. Of course, a safe option for a gift might be flowers or a bottle of wine. If you’re attending a holiday party this year or you have a friend or family member who loves to host, here a just a few ideas for gifts…

1. Chirp Your Enthusiasm Apron – Modcloth $44.99
2. Winter Cocktails – Terrain $22.95
3. Bloom Bud Vase – LEIF $20.00
4. Threshold Porcelain Salt Shaker Reindeer – Target $2.99
5. Horned Beauty Bottle Opener – Anthropologie $28.00
6. Matchbox Candle – Anthropologie $20.00
7. What’s a Hostess to Do? – Paper Source $17.95

Those horned bottle openers are beeaautiful and humanely made! Also, the What’s a Hostess to Do? book is amazing. I flip through it all the time at work. There are tons of yummy looking recipes and creative ideas for throwing parties.

Are you attending or hosting any holiday parties this year? I really wanted to throw a Christmas party but there’s no time. I am working on a New Year’s get together though. :)

Holiday Gift Guide | For the Health Enthusiast

12/01/2013 by Jennifer 1 Comment

Happy December! It is officially time to get festive. Usually I’m more of a grinch about Christmas, but this year I just want to have the most beautiful tree ever and drink hot cocoa every night. I don’t know who I am anymore. When I think of the holiday season, many pleasant things come to mind – sweaters, sparkles, hot drinks, card games, sitting by the fire, etc. There is also the food coma part of the holidays, which may or may not be something you’re into. Christmasy food is my favorite kind (what’s up gingerbread cookies!), so I’m not suggesting that anyone skips that. But if you, your friends, or your family like staying on the healthier side of the holidays, here is a little gift guide!

1. The French Twist by Carol Cottrill is witty book that compares the general American view of food and exercise to that of the French. It is surprisingly uplifting! Cottrill writes that “the key to weight management is self-affirmation”. This book also contains helpful facts about “body and beauty foods” (for example, leafy greens help with dark circles under eyes and acne). Oh and there are recipes. This would be a perfect gift for your health-obsessed relative or for…yourself. I can’t help but be greedy about this one. It’s a good read. :)

2. Well this one is pretty self-explanatory. Everyone needs honey. How about this Bumbleberry Chunk Honey from Terrain?

3. I think a calendar is the perfect gift that one could give in December. I know many people may be very particular about their calendar for the new year (I am super picky), but this calendar from Rifle Paper Co. is irresistible.

4. I love these ornament/tea containers for David’s Tea! This flavor is called Sleigh Ride – it’s an apple and spice herbal blend with hibiscus, cinnamon, and candied fruit. Oh my.

5. For my birthday, my roommate got me one of these amazing One Vessel glass tumblers. Mine has bees and flowers on it, but I couldn’t find a good picture of that design. I think it’s discontinued. Anyway, the beauty of this tumbler is that it is double-walled and it comes with a basket-like strainer so you can drink your loose leaf tea like a pro.

6. This. Is. Amazing. I can’t even tell you how much I love Dr. Hunter’s Rose & Glycerine Hand Cream. Everything about it is perfect. It is lightweight, it smells like an enchanted garden, and it works very well. It also comes from a line of other products that I can’t wait to try.

7. This one of the liquid supplements from I AM Enlightened Creations that I reviewed yesterday! These are just such easy gifts. The ingredients are natural and wonderful. I think they’d make cute little stocking stuffers.

8. How about an Organic Vegetable Garden Kit for the friend who is counting the days until springtime? This comes with eight different seed varieties including edible flowers.

9. And I think anybody could use these Farmers Market Page Flags from Paper Source. So cute!

Have you started your holiday shopping this year? I’m starting next week. At least that’s the plan.

This post is sponsored by The French Twist and IAMEnlightened Creations. Opinions are my own. :)

Gift Guide | For the Girl Who Loves Photography

11/21/2013 by Jennifer 3 Comments

Today’s gift guide is partially in honor of the huge photography giveaway going on right now, but more importantly, I made it to celebrate my dear childhood friend Adrianna! She is the one who I stayed with in Portland a few weeks ago. Neither of us can remember exactly how old we were when we first met…probably around two or three. Once we could comprehend that we shared the same birthday (November 15th, woohoo!), we were convinced that we must be twins. I literally remember saying to her, “So is my dad your dad, or is your dad my dad?” Totes parent trap style. We don’t even look alike so it’s extra funny thinking about it. :)

Anyway, right now Adrianna is studying photography in Portland and I absolutely love seeing her work as she goes through the program. It is beautiful and super creative. You can visit her photography page here! Her fashion photography is especially great.

1. The Palma, Leather Crossbody Camera Satchel – ONA $319.00
2. A Beautiful Mess Photo Idea Book – Urban Outfitters $17.99
3. Fujifilm Instax Mini 8 Instant Camera – Urban Outfitters $100.00
4. What Are You Waiting Photo Necklace – ModCloth $12.99
5. Diana Mini and Flash Gold Edition – Lomography $111.20
6. Vintage Daisy Trim Camera Strap on Blue Denim – TheLittleThingsBySM on Etsy $70.00
7. Crochet Diana Dreamer iPhone Case – Meemanan on Etsy $18.50

This is the end of birthday gift guides for the year! From now on, it’s all about the holidays. :)

Regarding the giveaway – if you haven’t heard, I’m teaming up with lots of other bloggers to give away a Canon Rebel T3i bundle (includes a tripod, lens cleaning kit, card reader, etc), a wireless camera remote, and a fancy handmade camera strap! You can read the details and enter here! There are just a few days left.

gift guide | for the guy who loves coffee

10/15/2013 by Jennifer 5 Comments

I didn’t start drinking real coffee until college. My friends and I got super serious about it. Once we went to a barista competition in Santa Cruz and it was a really big deal. Occasionally, I’ll go into a fancy coffee shop and ask questions about the espresso just because I know what I like and don’t like. On a regular basis, the coffee I drink is cheap and simple but it does the trick. Guess that means I am truly addicted.

Daniel is one of my good friends, and he is also a coffee connoisseur. You may know him as Stephanie‘s husband (remember when I blogged five times about their wedding?). Dan loves coffee, and so does Steph. They recently got an espresso maker, so I’m going to invite myself over one of these days for lavender lattes. :) Dan’s birthday was back in July, but…gifts are not just for birthdays and holidays, right? Right.

1. Squirrels Love Coffee print – WaterInMyPaint $9.91
2. Damn Handsome Tee – Handsome Coffee Roasters $32.00
3. Mustard Cup Cozy – Kampsun on Etsy $23.00
4. Wooden Coasters – Pentagon – AtelierDmontreal on Etsy $27.94
5. Haikubes Game – Paper Source $24.95 (Maybe your coffee-loving friend is also a poet…? Mine is!)
6. Harry Potter iPad/Kindle Fire Cozy – lifegeekery on Etsy $32.00
7. Pantone Espresso Set (similar) Amazon $50 for 6 // image found here

Hold on, can we talk about that squirrel for a second?? I’m thinking that I should buy it very soon. The best part about that Etsy shop is that there are multiple watercolor squirrels holding coffee cups.

Are you a big coffee drinker, or do you prefer tea? Or neither? You’re a strong, strong person if that’s the case. ;)

gift guide | for the girl who loves food

08/25/2013 by Jennifer 5 Comments

The majority of my favorite people in the world have August birthdays. It’s definitely a month of festivities. Today I want to talk about my best friend Sara, who is quite possibly the most true foodie I know. She is a nutrition major with a fancy nutrition job. Unlike me, she has a lot of patience while cooking and baking, and she always ends up with the fanciest meals. Being her roommate for the past year has meant that I have gotten to come home to some amazing smells. Oh and her birthday is August 10th, which just so happens to be National S’mores Day! She was destined to love food.

1. Mac & Cheese Cookbook – Anthropologie $16.99
2. Culinary Herb Growing Kit – RedEnvelope $69.95
3. Marshmallow Twig Roaster – Terrain $18.00
4. Mixed Print Napkin Set – LEIF – $24.00
5. Cheese Print – Old English Company $23.98
6. Heirloom Recipe Card Box – Rifle Paper Co. $135.00
7. Toadstool Measuring Spoons – World Market $4.99
8. Agate Platters – LEIF $48.00

I want all of these!! Especially those agate platters. They are so pretty.

Do you consider yourself a foodie as well? What’s your favorite item from the list?

ps. There are only two more days to enter the lovely Gold House Paper + Press Giveaway! There are tons of ways to enter, so your chances are high. :) Good luck!

gift guide | for the girl who loves to explore

08/17/2013 by Jennifer 7 Comments

I’m really happy to be starting this new series of gift guides! I have always wanted to do this, but my mind would keep drawing blanks. What would your best friend like for his or her birthday? Ahhh, I don’t know. But I do know what my best friends would like. So I’ve decided to start curating these gift guides based on real people in my life. In this case, I’m sure I’m not the only one who has a bestie who loves to explore. :)

one/two/three/four/five/six/seven/eight

Steph’s birthday was a couple of Fridays ago. She loves a lot of things, so it was hard to come up with a theme for this gift guide. But when I think about all of the things she really loves, they all have one thing in common – they involve exploring of some kind. She is known to explore other countries, nature, and local hidden gems. I’m so thankful to have such a well-rounded friend.

I ended up getting the 36 Hours (West Coast) book for her. She and her husband Daniel are all about traveling along the West Coast, so I thought it would come in handy. You can check out all of the other 36 Hours books here.

Oh! And I threw in the cat card just because Steph loves cats. Not because it has anything to do with exploring. :)
