antiques, adventures, & amy

07/29/2011 by Jennifer 3 Comments

Amy and I have been going on photo adventures since 2006. Actually, I think she might have been my first photo buddy ever! While Amy is and has always been naturally photogenic, I have struggled, staring awkwardly at the camera wondering what cute pose I am supposed to make. And yet, our adventures continue :)

Yesterday, we stopped at an antique store in Davis that I’ve been wanting to visit for a long time. It is really just this little lady’s house with a front yard full of treasures. That is what lures you in. Then, you can walk inside of the house and explore piles of old fashioned goodies. I learned that it is not a good idea to wear big purses inside of this store because it is an extremely tiny house. I literally had to walk sideways through the doorways. But there were so many good things! I found some Pyrex items, as well as a present for a friend. However, I couldn’t buy anything because I didn’t have cash on me. I’ll have to go back next week.

Amy is a very good friend of the camera, and she also accessorizes well! Whenever I go into her room, I just dig through pretty jewelry and crafty items. Her room is a treasure chest. Yesterday’s find: rubber stamps. I love stamps lately.
 best wall. ever.
Today, I feel a little haunted by big old discouragement again, and I want that to stop. I am going to crochet roses and other pretty things for the rest of the day, and I will definitely share them soon :)

color wheel wednesday: yellow

07/28/2011 by Jennifer 3 Comments

I love colors. Lately, I have been spending a lot of time at one of my favorite websites, COLOURlovers. Here, I can find nice palettes and patterns and create my own as well. There is even a seamless studio now, but I haven’t really checked it out yet.
Today I want to talk about my favorite color in the entire world. Sometimes, I like to say that my favorite color is gold or “sparkles” (that’s a strech), but I need not get carried away.
Yellow will do. :)

via style me pretty

Yellow reminds me of a few of my favorite things. The sun. Honey. Being happy. Lemons. Curry.

via plenty of colour

where did this beautiful picture come from? this is my dream room.
I love most shades of yellow, but some tend to hurt my eyes.
Well, this is the start of something a weekly kind of post. I want to start blogging in a more scheduled way because it keeps me inspired and disciplined. I feel a little ridiculous having to discipline myself to blog. But lately in the craft world, I have been having ups and downs. Sometimes I get discouraged, but I will just keep on crafting and learning from other bloggers.
By this fall (hopefully sooner), I will have my etsy open! I have made a few things, but I haven’t made enough for a shop. However, I have many ideas, and I’d like to embrace all the free time I’ve been give this summer and put it to good use.
For the next month or so, I will probably be surrounded by yarn and fabric and paper. Hopefully good things will come of it. :)
Anyway, rabbit traaaiilll!
My point is that I love yellow.

crochet: baby love

07/26/2011 by Jennifer 2 Comments

As I said the other day, this weekend I had the privilege of attending a baby shower. My friend Jenn is having her baby any day now! Holy moly. She has been such a friend and mentor to me, and I can’t help feeling overly excited about her son or daughter to be. I decided to make a couple of hats for the little one, and let me tell you, baby things are so much more fun to make than grown up things. Probably because they are tiny and take less time.
Both patterns are from Alli Crafts. This lady this amazing and has so many baby patterns for free! I always appreciate free things. So, thank you Alli :)
I didn’t attach the flower due to the baby gender mystery. Yay for surprises :)
This pattern was for a bear hat, but I wanted to call it a “monkey hat”
since Jenn’s theme is monkeys and jungle friends.

Anyway, I love babies. And yarn. Jenn is not the only friend of mine who is bringing somebody into the world soon, so watch out babies!
Check out Alli Crafts for some more adorable crochet patterns.

shopping on fillmo’

07/24/2011 by Jennifer 1 Comment

This weekend, I traveled to San Francisco with Sara

on a quest for a very necessary item.

An adorable bee stamp from the Paper Source! Isn’t it great? I also bought this “handmade buy” stamp:
I think it is perfect. We probably spent half the day in the Paper Source, which was my fault. I always feel like I have to scratch every surface of every craft store just in case I miss something. We also went to a few other cute stores including Jonathan Adler and Marc Jacobs, which is always great with their cheap Marc by Marc Jacobs by Marc Jacobs by Marc, etc. brand.
We went to Picante’s in Berkeley and had the best guacamole ever.
Then, we watched funny youtube videos and learned how to make envelopes.

Life skills! Seriously. I am obsessed.
Anyway, it was a lovely day. Today was equally great seeing as I was participating in a baby shower! Oh my… I will write about that very soon.

etymologie (via: anthropologie)

07/19/2011 by Jennifer Leave a Comment

Since when does Anthropologie have a tumblr?

Since May! I am way behind the times. Aside from posting all that is good, the Anthropologie masterminds are “visually exploring words and their meanings,” hence the title etymologie.

Yay! I always love finding wonderful, new tumblrs. They are quick and easy, requiring little to no thought whereas in the blog world, I am still 752 posts behind.

It will be a while before I step foot inside of an Anthropologie store. I am trying a new thing called self-control. However, that won’t stop me from visiting the website every single day (:

favorite things of the week

Sparkly Nail Polish
This is what I’m currently wearing on my toes. Sparkly nail polish (in addition to everything sparkly) is an all time favorite. Sometimes I wear it for long periods of time, and then I go a long time without wearing it because I feel like acting my age. This summer I have made the decision that I can do both. (more on this later)
Tie Dying

taken by Sara

I had never tie-dyed until this week! Finally, I just made it happen. Sara, Adalin, Danali, and I created a few beautiful t-shirts and it was so much fun. While Sara and I prepared the dye, the girls ran around and blew bubbles. A perfect summer day. :)
I feel like tie dyeing the whole world now. Anything boring in sight.

I had my first class this week at the Davis Art Center. I thought I would be surrounded by older, more experienced artists. Nope. Everyone was probably 8-12. I loved it though, just as I hoped I would. Next week, we’re glazing :)
Inflatable Devices

source unknown
This weekend, I had the privilege of house sitting with my friend Ashley. There was a huge pool and Ashley discovered a big floaty that made me feel like a queen. Fun, fun!
Next week, I will probably have a bunch of new favorite things so this can become a weekly thing :)
