Summer Trip # | Gualala

05/25/2012 by Jennifer 7 Comments

I have a crazy “soul tie” to this place. There isn’t really anywhere that I love more. My grandma used to live in a big wooden house on Friendly Ln. in Gualala with a garden abyss as the backyard. She moved closer to us and sold the house. I would’ve bought it, but I was ten.

Last week, my two wonderful, former roomies and I traveled up the coast to stay in a house in the redwoods. It was so fun! A perfect graduation present to ourselves.

We spent most of the time eating, being in the hot tub, and drinking the best chai ever from Blue Canoe. We also watched tons of movies! Super relaxing.

I’m hoping to go up there again this summer with family & friends to stay in a different house that I hear is fantastic :)

Congratulations, Steph & Dan!

05/23/2012 by Jennifer 2 Comments

On New Year’s Day, I took pictures of a couple of my favorite people. Stephanie, my best friend, and her boyfriend Daniel. They looked like engagement photos, but really, I just wanted to have a photo shoot that involved cute outfits and glitter.

Daniel proposed to Steph good old Harry Potter-esque style. I had heard the details of how it was going to go down, but when Steph told me the official story, I cried a lot. Nothing’s more romantic than Harry Potter. Really.

Conveniently, the timing of their engagement lined up perfectly with my illustrated timeline of their lives together :)

Right after they became engaged, I went on a trip to the redwoods with Steph and our lovely friend Ashley who also just got engaged!

I’ll post some pictures of the trip tomorrow! It was so relaxing. A great way to begin the summer.

At least for these girls, it is :) My sisters are so fun and photogenic. Can’t wait to spend lots and lots of time with them all summer long.

I’m done, I’m done, I’m done!

Today, I took my last two finals. The rest of the week will be full of graduation events and my friend Charissa’s wedding events. I’m a bridesmaid! Have I blogged about this yet? Well…Charissa is one of my dearest friends. She is marrying the love of her life and they’re going to have the most beautiful wedding. I’m so excited. The wedding will be the day after graduation, so I expect to be super busy. In a good way :)

I honestly don’t know how I feel right now. Happy. A little restless. It’s a crazy time of life! I am sitting at Shady Coffee trying to think of something productive to do…but I don’t have to do anything productive if I don’t want to :)

I’m waiting on a few things, including information on renting a beautiful house and finding out the results of a job interview. No matter what ends up happening, I think it is going to be a nice summer. A lot of blogging and crafting. I even have some DIYs up my sleeve :) And some good time with good people. It will be refreshing.

ps. One more week to enter the giveaway! If you’re not a college student and you’re feeling uninterested, I’m sure you have a friend who’d love the extra cash :)

Linda

04/21/2012 by Jennifer Leave a Comment

Almost exactly a year ago, I lost my dear aunt Linda. She was one of the most happy, beautiful, wonderful people I have ever known. She even changed her middle name to Happy.

This week has been heartbreaking and frustrating for me, since it’s brought up so many feelings of the week we cared for Linda, loved her so much, and lost her to cancer. She literally fought till the very end, which made it painful to watch all of her suffering. The morning after she left this world, I started my first craft blog (made possible by a lot of denial and shock). I felt okay. I wanted to pursue my crafty dreams in honor of Linda, who lived life more fully than anyone I know. Even in her final months, she traveled the country and blessed more people than I can count. We talked about traveling everywhere together. I know she would have gone, too.

I’m the cat on the right, haha. A vague but fond memory :)

We said goodbye to her on April 21st of last year, in her pretty house on Tulip Lane. The family was there, we prayed, we cried, she told us all that she loved us, and then she took her last breath. For the past year, I have been remembering that moment and going crazy all too often. I know that grief is different for everyone, but mine seems abnormally…awful. I miss her so much.

We also said goodbye to my grandpa last year. I’m happy they’re with each other now.

Tomorrow, we are having brunch at my grandma’s house and doing family things. My family is beautiful and strong. I’m thankful.
