Summer Trip #2 | Rockaway Beach

06/16/2012 by Jennifer 6 Comments

Last weekend, my family and I stayed in a great beach house in Oregon! It was so pretty. The beach was literally a tiny path from the house. We spent most of the weekend on the beach, making s’mores, playing cards, etc. There was a short motown dance sesh :) And I was able to do a lot of antiquing and thrifting.

Oregon is one of my very favorite places to be. I guess I wish it was just summer all the time there. A little rain and mostly sunshine sounds perfect to me. Rockaway Beach was the cutest town. Lots of bright walls. It wasn’t the slightest bit industrial. I just wanted to bring all my friends and Etsy items back and have a big old photo shoot.

Now that I’m back, I am adding things to my shop! Hooray!

Summer Goal #1 | Get Into a Healthy Routine

06/13/2012 by Jennifer 6 Comments

Isn’t that everyone’s goal all the time?

Before each new season or “chapter of life,” I make big plans to be suuuuper healthy. I make crazy goals. It works for a few days. And then, life happens and it isn’t so easy anymore.

(Remember how I was saying that I overwhelm myself with far-fetched goals? My health-related goals are always the worst. Super unrealistic.)

I love eating healthy, but I want to be more physically active. I have so many excuses that I thought I’d go through all of them and refute them as best as possible :) It’s working so far.

One of my main excuses was that I have always had running issues. If I could run…oh man. I would go everywhere I think. But I can never breathe the right way. After one minute, I feel like I’m going to die. It’s not asthma, but it is definitely something. This has always been a big excuse. However, over the weekend, I talked to my cousin Ramman about my issues and he taught me some new things. Ramman runs a fitness company in Portland called Primordial Playground. When we get together, he can always help to answer my health-related questions.

First we talked about my flat feet. The first thing Ramman said was, “Flat feet aren’t really a thing.” Dang. There goes that excuse. So now, I am working on building up an arch, which is super painful, but it is affecting my whole body in a good way. After that, we talked about breathing. Then…we went running! It wasn’t so bad because we were at the beach for a family vacation, and everything was beautiful outside. I hardly ran at all, but I ended up being sore the next day. I think I might make running a consistent thing, even if it is for a few minutes at a time.

My main thing is 30 Day Shred. Has anyone tried it? A few summers ago, I watched a bunch of video reviews on it and so many people had seen great results. Then, I bought it for $8 and tried it right away. I thought it was alright…not too difficult. But in the morning, I could hardly move. In a good way. It’s wonderful because it tricks you into thinking that you’re not doing much, but you are working out lots of different areas. As of today, I am welcoming Jillian Michaels back into my life with my mother as my accountability partner. Day One of 30 Day Shred: Complete. Piece of cake :)

Anyway…this is a rambly non-crafty/thrifty/bloggy post, but it’s important for me to focus on this goal this week (and during the weeks to come). When I have low energy, it takes a toll on every fun thing I want to do in life.

Weekly Instagrams

06/08/2012 by Jennifer 5 Comments

What an exciting week it has been! But so exhausting. Man. For some reason, I woke up at 4:30 this morning and never really fell back asleep. The past couple of days have been completely packed with good and bad things. The good stuff being shown in the pictures below, and the bad being my DMV woes. Enough said.

1. Last Friday, three of my friends and I went to San Francisco to see Leighton Meester! Dana Williams opened for her, and that girl has the most beautiful voice. Leighton played with Check in the Dark. Super talented. It was so much fun.
2. I got asked to be a bridesmaid! In two weddings! All of my dreams are just coming true.
3. Decided to go ahead and give embroidery a try and I love it a lot. It’s a good thing I have already hoarded embroidery thread from my friendship bracelet making frenzy :)
4. Sara and I made lemon chicken, rosemary olive oil quinoa, and grapefruit mojitos! Actually, she made everything. It was so wonderful.
5. Later that night, I stumbled upon these chem lab goggles and thought I’d try them on.
6. Avocado grilled cheese & grapefruit juice. All I could ever want :)
7. I have been spending a lot of time in my backyard and I’m more and more convinced that I need learn to garden like my mom. She grows all kinds of things!
8. Spent some time with my sisters yesterday and they showed me a new craft. All you do is squish jelly beans with your shoes. Cover them in glitter glue. And then you’ve got a pretty stone. They both want to guest blog with their crafts! That will happen.
9. And then today, when I visited my friend Charissa, she gave me all kinds of leftover decorations from her wedding, including lace and doilies. So I put them on my wall to make a backdrop for product photos :)

Well, I have been ready to go to sleep since like five this afternoon. Tomorrow, we’ll be on the road to Oregon! We are staying in a house by the (cold) beach and I’m so excited to chill and do nothing except make s’mores and hang out with my fam.

Summer Goals Series

06/06/2012 by Jennifer 1 Comment

I have been seeing a lot of blogs that regularly post goals. And while I want to love goals, I always go about them the wrong way. I love writing lists, but my lists go on and on and on, until they are impossible to even look at without wanting to take a nap and forget about everything.

Too much on the goal list = stress. Even if the list is written in a pretty planner or posted on my blog.

Because this is the kind of summer that never ends (aka, I’m not going back to school in the fall), I can’t really just be lazy and wait out the summer. I have to work (soon, fingers crossed), and do productive things. I love summer. Everything about it. There are lots of things I want to accomplish, but I don’t want to stress myself out.

Sooo, I was thinking I’d focus on one thing each week. It doesn’t mean that I have to stop focusing on it after the week is over, but I think it will allow me to really devote my time to something I’m passionate about without getting all scattered about everything else I want to do.

This week, I have some quality time dates set up with good friends. This weekend, I am going to Oregon, my second favorite state :) And then next week, I will be back with goal numero uno!

Photo/Froyo Date with Amy

05/29/2012 by Jennifer 5 Comments

Meet my dear friend, Amy Marie! This girl and I have been going on photo dates since high school. Geez louise. It is so nice to get out from behind the camera and take pictures of each other (though we often still have our cameras in the pictures, as you can see).

I love this lady. She takes beautiful photos. You can find her/like her page at Amy Marie Photography.

We ended our day with a little froyo and then a fiesta at a new friend’s house! It was wonderful. Making friends in my soon-to-be new town is one of my main goals of the summer. :)
