earl grey shop coming (so) soon!

04/10/2012 by Jennifer Leave a Comment

Spring break is over, and I’m back to my apartment and classes. While I would rather be sleeping in and spending time with my family, being back is a great thing. This means Kat and I can finally get together and launch our new shop! We have quite the inventory, and photographing everything will be so fun. That is, if the rain decides to go away for a while…

So, expect some new and exciting things in the near, near future. Sometimes I feel that the Dream Job part of my life is always on hold, but now that summer is approaching, I feel closer to it than ever.

headbands & coffee dates

01/15/2012 by Jennifer 3 Comments

Yesterday, Alissa and I got together for coffee and an Etsy photo date. This girl wears headbands like nobody else, and her hair is probably my favorite.

These are some of the new headbands in my shop! More will come as soon as I retrieve my sewing machine at home (aka, I don’t like sewing on buttons).

This week has been full of the most amazing coffee dates with some wonderful people. There are two days left of my month-long winter break and I’m hoping that I can find time during the semester to have meaningful get togethers, to stay inspired, and to make things…amidst all the projects and papers that will inevitably come my way.

And I hope I keep blogging. This is becoming such a discipline! I have a lot on my mind and heart… Reflections. Ideas. Goals. But they are staying on the inside for now.

Baby steps :)

etsy open! & new facebook page

01/07/2012 by Jennifer 2 Comments

So I finally started my Etsy! A great way to begin the year, I think. I’m so excited. I know that with this will come a lot of discipline. But it will be a good learning experience.

You can visit my shop at The Honey Haven on Etsy.

I also have created a Facebook page! Please feel free to “like” it here.

Thanks so much!

resolutions & inspiration

01/03/2012 by Jennifer 4 Comments

It is only the third day of the year and already a big gust of change is being blown my way. Most of it is internal change, as I am beginning to think more about life after college. I think graduating is such a stressful thought because there are so many possibilities that it feels overwhelming. It’s not that we’re stuck without anything to do. Deciding what to do is the issue.

First, I definitely need a job. Last weekend, I paid for my tuition which was a wakeup call. Then, Anthropologie called me yesterday and told me they wouldn’t be keeping me. I felt sort of disappointed but mostly relieved… funny how your dream job can become such an unideal workplace. It was great experience though and I had some wonderful interactions with customers. Now I’m looking for another opportunity.
The other day, I mentioned that my New Year’s resolution is to “commit.” So far I think it’s going really well! My mom and I have decided to work out every day of January, which feels amazing. Goodness. Sometimes I forget about those endorphins. Also, Etsy is starting….now…ish. I just have to figure out shipping rates.
Here are some of the completed items that will be in the shop:
Does anyone else have exciting New Year’s resolutions? (Even if they are as vague as mine, haha)
PS. I have been way out of the loop in the blog world. Like hundreds of posts behind. Maybe I should add that to my resolution list…

artesa winery in napa

12/30/2011 by Jennifer 1 Comment

This week, my friend Sara and I ventured off to Napa for a fun photoshoot. Because we were limited in time, we didn’t get to stay for very long, but at least now I have some new favorite places :)

Such as Artesa Winery. Yay for finally being 21!

Artesa is located on top of a hill, overlooking tons of vineyards, with fountains everywhere. The people who worked there were so nice to us too!

Probably my favorite picture ever
I got bangs and cut all my hair off. Craaaazzyy.
‘
We also took some pictures for Etsy.

Pattern from the lovely Sarahndipities

Oh, Etsy. It’ll be here. New Year’s resolution…?

Have a happy and safe and sparkly New Year’s Eve friends :)

pretty remnants, part I

06/04/2011 by Jennifer Leave a Comment

At the Whole Earth Festival in May I bought this really cute headband for three dollars:

The quality isn’t great, but I love the pattern. After this, I got really inspired to make things out of fabric, such as headbands, flowers, etc. Only, it has been quite the journey finding any remnants of pretty fabric at all. In high school, I found a bunch of fabric scraps from Michael’s. They were cute and floral, but I didn’t have a real use for them. I covered a journal with one piece, and I sewed a little heart to the inside of a jacket which traveled throughout my group of friends. That was an embarrassing time of life, but I thought this blog could use a little self-disclosure :) there ya go. I had a sisterhood, indeed.

Anyway, last week I went to Jo-Ann’s, Michael’s, and even the super scary Walmart in my hometown, but there were no cheap scraps to be found. I started looking on Amazon when I finally remembered faithful Etsy! Duh.

I ended up finding a ton of neat, affordable bags of scraps, but I worried that I wouldn’t receive any patterns I especially loved since they were all random.

But out of nowhere came a wonderful shop called Island Supplies with the prettiest selection ever.

These are all leftovers from silk saris. They will be sent to me from Spain and the shipping is only three dollars. The lady who makes them is named Norma and when I checked the shop today, it had been restocked! Best. Etsy. Ever. Another great thing is they were shipped just a few days after I purchased them.

Oh, and I got ribbon too! I think this will come in handy in many ways.

PS. After I bought this stuff (no regrets), my mom informed me that she wasn’t “emotionally attached” to many of her African-style sarans. They have really pretty patterns and I may be able to use them! And that will be part two.
