Bangs or No Bangs?

02/21/2014 by Jennifer 11 Comments

Hey there! Today I’m getting my hair cut and I am so torn on what I should do to it. I’ve gotten better at getting my hair regularly trimmed ever since I finally found a consistent hair lady who I think is the absolute best. Every time I go to her, I get a Brazilian blowout and I make her promise never to give me bangs, even if I end up asking for them.

The Brazilian blowout may be the most magical thing I’ve ever discovered regarding hair. It makes my hair shiny and soft but it doesn’t take away the waves. I never have to use product or blowdry my hair to make it look normal and it lasts 4-6 months. Because I have a lot of hair, I usually have it done every four months. I’ll try to do a before and after post! It really makes life easier for those of us with frizzy, tangly lion mains.

Usually, I want bangs every winter around Christmas time. I’ve resisted for two years but now I really, really want them again! Whenever I get bangs, I get insecure and pin them back. The wind is also a lame factor. If I do this again, I’ll just need to commit.

As far as bangs go, Katie Shelton, Bri Emery, and Zooey Deschanel have my favorite hairstyles. I love how their bangs are effortless looking and just a bit side swept without being “side bangs”.

And then there are my favorite no-bangs hairstyles! Elizabeth Olsen may have the prettiest hairstyle in the world. I love the long bob, but every time I cut my hair that short, I regret it big time. It’s not even that short, but it just doesn’t look good on me. I have always loved Audrina’s hair and how sunkissed it is. And of course, Jessica Biel. Oh, Jessica! This is the picture I gave my hair dresser when I first ombred my hair. I think Mrs. Timberlake is just the best.

So, once again I’m completely stuck in the middle. On the one hand, no-bangs is the safe way to go, but on the other hand I am very tired of my hair. And that’s why people get bangs, right?
Help! What do you think? I’m leaning towards bangs but that may change in the next few hours…

I just recently got them (4 weeks ago) and I love them! You need to trim them more than your hair regularly which is annoying, but I love the look.

Hair grows, just do it. I’m in the same spot and my hair appointment is next week. And I’m using the same people as inpirartion. Espeically katie since I’m a redhead!

Can’t wait to see what you choose!

Glad you chose the bangs. My hair dresser wouldn’t do it for me. aparently my collicks are too bad.

Don’t do it. I do the exact same thing you do every year… go back and forth and I resisted the last few years as I remember how long they take to grow out and how I enjoy them for only a few weeks before they are all grown out and at that annoying stage. I’m totally not saying you wouldn’t look good with them, just saying I know your dilemma…I just got bangs again around Christmas after the two year gap (last minute decision) and I regretted it right after I cut them…I always forget about the upkeep! Fun for a millisecond haha!!

I love my bangs, though I have them mainly because my forehead is MASSIVE, and I’m trying to hide it all the time! I get a lot of compliments on them too, my coworker told me that I pull them off really well and don’t look childish with them.
Bangs are fun, plus, hair grows out, and you can clip them up in a little poof for a cute look as well! (Aka what I do when I get lazy and don’t feel like blow drying mine)

I love my bangs and might never go back (plus I don’t want to go through the awkward phase of growing them out…) but I absolutely know what you mean about the wind making them difficult, especially when trying to have photos taken of you at the beach. Awkward moment.

I say that if you are super low maintenance with your hair routine, don’t do it. I don’t even like blow drying my hair, so styling bangs has NEVER worked out for me. And I never go to the hair salon on a set schedule…it ends up being 8 months later…so I would be horrible if I got bangs again. I think you’d look cute with them, but it’s really up to how much time you want to spend on them–you wouldn’t want to do that just to pin them back. I haven’t done a brazilian blowout yet but it sounds amazing!

    Good luck!

Go for it! I got mine done in January, and I’m obsessed! I wont be growing them out anytime soon! :D

Same problem here! My bangs are all grown out now, but I kind of miss them :-) But when I have them I want to grow them out… I do love your hair as it is now! Curious about what it’s going to be.

You would be adorable with bangs! They are so versatile too :)
