Welcoming Comfy, Cozy Autumn

09/22/2012 by Jennifer 5 Comments

It’s the first day of fall! Do you know what this means? So much… oh my goodness. I mean, I love summer. Sometimes I feel like the biggest summer girl in every way, but autumn is just my fave. Let’s be real. There is nothing like it.

Fall reminds me of all things good: scarves and layers, hot drinks, family time, white christmas lights, blankets, my birthday (!!!), fireplaces, fall colors… I’m super inspired by fall colors. Today, I’m crocheting up a storm :) Stay tuned.

ps. Thanks for all the nice comments on my last post! You are all wonderful. I’m feeling better about the whole dream job dealio :)

Things I’m Learning, pt 1

09/21/2012 by Jennifer 6 Comments

This might just turn into a post series! Lately, I am learning a lot about blogging, my dream job, and really just a lot about myself. All summer, I’ve been keeping a journal of lists and ideas, including little lightbulb moments I have had about blogging. It’s easy to fill a notebook with colorful, wonderful, exciting things. But it isn’t so easy to spill these out to the world in a graceful manner, whether it is through a blog or a shop or plain old spoken words. I have ideas, but sometimes I don’t know how to turn them into things that are real.

One day while I was feeling all “woe is me” about the future, my good friend told me something that stuck with me. She said something along the lines of, “I think your dream job involves creating an atmosphere.” It resonated with me more than anything ever has, regarding the future.

Sometimes discouragement and inspiration come and go, by the second. I want to try really hard to stay inspired during this upcoming season because it is a beautiful time of year. So I’m carrying my yarn around. Changin’ up the blog even more (I know, I know, I’m the worst). And trying to figure out what “creating an atmosphere” looks like.

Happy Last Day of Summer! It’s always bittersweet. This summer has been one of the happiest. Super excited for fall smells, colors, and holidays though :)

Weekly Instagrams

09/14/2012 by Jennifer Leave a Comment

Whew! September is a crazy month so far! I’m all moved into my new house (mostly) and we are working on making it a homey place. I also have a new job! I’m a nanny. It is the perfect way to make time for crafty endeavors while also being able to pay rent. Hooooray :)

1. I love how Ikea makes me feel like such a savvy handy woman. Sure, I can put together a night stand. Or a dinner table. Or a shelf. Whatevs.
2. My roomie Sara has these cute russian doll pot holders! Aren’t they the best? I love our kitchen.
3. Last week, my roommates and I saw Edward Sharpe. So, so good. It was the happiest time :)
4. The next day, I celebrated my friend’s birthday in San Francisco. We began the night with tomato soup and grilled cheese from Starbelly. Definitely going back there.
5. I walked around downtown the other day and took a bunch of paint swatches from Ace! I’ve been doing so much experimenting with color schemes just in time for fall and new Etsy items.
6. Earlier this week, I played Rummikub with TJ and his fam. And my favorite food item just happened to be there :)
7. The family I nanny for has chickens!!! They’re adorable and they have cute names like Chamomile.
8. A fancy wine and cheese party with the roommates to celebrate…life. They are seriously the best roommates.
9. And last night I saw the Rascal Flatts with TJ, Sara, and our friend Dawn. So much fun! We were really late, but still managed to see their whole set. Life is a highway, dude. But really. It is.

Now, I’m off to plan a bachelorette party (it’s tomorrow…) and I think tonight might also include some pizza making…I’ll let you know.

ps. My blog is going through changes. Always. At least the name’s staying the same, right? :)

New House

09/04/2012 by Jennifer 4 Comments

I have so much to share! My hiatus was due to the fact that this weekend was move-in weekend…into the most wonderful house in the world. It is an old house with little quirks, but it is still 10,000% beautiful. It’s a wonderful first house experience, and my roommates are the best. We are kinda like soul-roommates, if that’s a thing. Also, a Panera opened up a few days ago just two blocks from our house. And I’m serious about my relationship with Panera, so this all feels very meant to be.

I’m thankful to finally have a place with good lighting and open space. It’s like the house keeps yelling, “Hey, host a diy here! Photograph yummy recipes here.” It’s everything I have wanted.

Right now, the place is a mess and our boxes are everywhere. We are definitely getting our Ikea on and feeling like handy-women which is so cool. Plus, my boyfriend happens to be great at this stuff. So we are building things and calling them by their Ikea names. Currently, I am building Tarva.

When everything is situated, I’ll post some real-camera photos. Right now, my phone has been doing the trick. We don’t really have internet, so I’m using this crappy limited wifi. I’ll be a little absent from the interwebs but when I’m back, expect fun things :)

In the Near Future

08/31/2012 by Jennifer 1 Comment

There are a lot of things I’m looking forward to that are coming up very soon! Tonight, I’m heading to the rehearsal dinner of the wedding I’m photographing tomorrow. Remember that attractive couple, Lexi and Aaron? It’s their wedding! :)

Right after that, I’ll be moving into my new house. I can’t explain how cute it is. As soon as my roommates and I get settled, I’ll bombard you all with photos of the inside. Tomorrow is our move-in day and I haven’t packed a single item. So…we’ll see how that goes.

Can you believe tomorrow is September? I’m holding onto summer with everything that’s in me, but…fall is gonna be so great. Sweaters. The smell of rain. More concerts. Employment..? Oh, and I’ll be introducing you to my sponsor swap buddies who are wonderful.

August, it’s been real. See ya.

Weekly Instagrams

08/26/2012 by Jennifer 7 Comments

Well, here I am with two “weekly instagrams” posts almost back to back. Oops! This week has been a mix of restful days and adventurous days. I’m getting ready to move into a new house, making plans, and creating some stuff for my neglected etsy shop.

1. Last weekend, I went to a tomato festival! Before you gasp and tell me how cool that is, just know that…it wasn’t cool. Sara and I arrived to this thing only to find that it was really an everything-else-festival, and the tomatoes were in a tiny tent at the end of the road called “Tomato Alley.” We did try some tasty tomatoes, so it wasn’t terrible :)

2. After the “festival,” we went to a place called Western Outlaws, aka cowboy boot heaven. I hoped so much to find a pair but they were all very expensive with designs that were too crazy for me.

3. Spent some quality time with Steph and Dan. They are getting married in March and I think they are the best :)

4. A few days later, I happened to find my dream cowboy boots while antiquing with my boyfriend T.J. I was so overjoyed! Seriously. They are perfect.

5. Creating color schemes is the most fun thing to do in the world. So I did that the other morning and it was wonderful.

6 & 7. On Wednesday, T.J. and I spent the evening in Berkeley and pretended to be very hip and introspective (as shown above). We had dinner at my favorite mexican restaurant, Picante. Mmm! It was the greatest time. But then again, I say that about all of our dates.

8. And yesterday, I had dinner with his fam. It was so, so, so delicious and made me want to get off of my “I don’t cook” high horse. We had peach cobbler and ice cream for dessert, which I should’ve also taken a picture of :)

I feel all rambley, like I’m having blogging withdrawals. I’ll get back into the swing of things this week.

ps. There is one more spot open for ad swaps! Check out the blog post below this one if you’re interested.
