Weekly Instagrams

Last week was full of house hunting and working. Thankfully, I had some down time which was really nice. A Goodwill opened up in my town and there was this huge grand opening, complete with balloons, a radio station, and free tote bags. I got a pretty necklace that somehow perfectly matches my colorful new favorite dress ever. :)

That gem in the bottom left picture is my sister Adalin. She is a crocheting machine! I’m always in awe over what she makes, without any patterns or instructions at all. This is a phone cozy she made my mom with a perfect “S” crocheted into it. She used a technique that I have never ever thought of. I’ll have to hire her to help me with my Etsy! Except that is probably illegal.

Lastly, I love looking at the kitties up for adoption in Berkeley. There are always a few where I take my lunch breaks. This is Maggie. I love her.

I’ve been working weekends only lately, so I have no concept of the weekend as “break time” anymore. But still, happy weekend to you. :)

Got any plans for the week?

Last week looked a little something like this…

1. Ranunculi. How I love ’em. :)
2. Another music festival to look forward to! Outside Lands is always fun.
3. The other day, I found out my sister can make her hair look like TROLL hair. She thinks it’s hilarious and will gladly bring out “troll hair” whenever anyone asks. I’m thankful for that seven year old gem.
4. I painted my nails white because Jenny Lewis painted her nails white. I know, I know! I’m one of those people. And guess what? I love white nails. Who knew!
5. There was a beautiful event at my work the other day, featuring the artist Zee Avi. I had seen her perform once before, but this concert was so special and personal. I loved getting to meet Zee. We talked about how much we love cover songs (she covered Regina Spektor and Spice Girls!!).
6. During my lunch break, I wandered into a boutique and found these pretty shoes. They were $400…super nice to look at though :)
7. Yesterday, I scored this book/journal by Sabrina Ward Harrison for just a few dollars. She has been a huge inspiration to me for many years now. I love how she throws words, paint, and photos around in such a deep and meaningful way.
8. I got this bunny shirt!!!! It may look like I shop a lot, but it was only $12ish dollars. And it’s covered in bunnies, so…
9. This weekend is full of memories from two Aprils ago when we lost my Aunt Linda. I have had a productive and fun week, but at the end of it all, I’m still a little broken. I am learning that grief is a lifelong process – it just takes different forms. I have come a long way since we said goodbye to Linda, but I’m still not used to being without her. It’s hard to explain how much she meant (and still means) to me. She changed my life in a trillion different ways.
Goodnight  ♥

1. Just me, being a three year old. After I finally grew my curly locks. This makes me laugh. :)
2. Loving glitter as always.
3. Well, this is a blog design inception if I ever did see one…
4. Still can’t get over meeting Jenny Lewis
5. and seeing The Postal Service (twice!! I’m so thankful).
6. The other day felt like summer. In fact, every day this week has been summery. Warm weather does a lot to lift my spirits. Keep it coming, April. :)
7. Steph and Dan got their wedding photos from our friend Ryan! So exciting. They are breathtaking.
8. And this is what I look like right now, watching Lost. When I love a tv series, I am pretty much fully committed. I’m finally watching Lost right now and, well, I might as well be in a serious relationship with it.

Meeting Jenny Lewis

04/12/2013 by Jennifer 5 Comments

You guys. Two days ago, I met my favorite musician ever! EVER. But before I get into that, I have some background information.

This week, my awesome friend Sarah and I traveled over to Reno for a Postal Service concert. It was their very first show in nine years! The night was so much fun and the music was flawless. I was especially excited to see Jenny Lewis, who I think is truly wonderful. She has the best voice, style, lyrics, everything. Can I do a separate post just about her style? Okay, I will.

The next day I had plans to leave town again, but my car wouldn’t start. So, I walked over to Whole Foods where Lauren was working and I did some shopping. Lauren and I made plans to go to the farmer’s market later that day. A few hours later, we were walking through the farmer’s market and I walked right past Jenny Lewis herself. I had forgotten that the band was playing another show in my town that night. I panicked for a second, and then turned around and decided to go find her. She was buying a peach and I said, “Are you Jenny Lewis?” as well as a bunch of other dorky things. I was so starstruck.

We talked a little bit about the farmer’s market and how great it was, and then she put me on the list for the show that night! I was so happy. I’m still so happy. The night was sooooo wonderful. And the best part was that she gave me two tickets! At first I arrived by myself, but I was handed another ticket. So, my best friend Sara was able to come with me and we fulfilled all of our high school dreams. Seriously, we have been waiting for eight years to sing along to The Postal Service together at a concert.

Everything felt very meant to be last night. My car broke down…I ran into Jenny Lewis…life is really crazy sometimes. There are many other musicians that I love. Meeting them at concerts would be neat, but meeting them at a farmer’s market?! Sheesh.

Have you ever met someone that you didn’t think you’d ever meet? Did you keep it together or get super flustered like I did? :)

weekly instagrams

I lied. These are more like monthly instagrams.

1. A few weeks ago, I got to see my long lost Adrianna! We met when we were little babies and we grew up hoping that we might secretly be twins (same birthday, same babysitter, same church…we were obviously twins). She is living in Portland right now and came down to visit California. We enjoyed some fun wine tasting and thrifting :) Love her.

2. Got some more ombre. I also had this amazing brazilian blowout treatment type of thing. Not to get super girly with you, but I was able to let my hair air dry and not have crazy frizzy lion hair for the first time in my life. Ahhh…

3. I have been painting a lot lately! I have quite a few unfinished projects that are keeping me busy.

4. Here’s a photo from the beekeeping class that I took with my friend Steph last weekend. Be still my heart. I’m so thankful that I got to get up close and personal with those beautiful creatures. Can’t wait to have my own bees someday! Sooner than later, I hope.

5. Easter nails!

6. My favorite morning ritual.

7. I bought some ranunculus from Trader Joe’s the other day, and I’m in love. They’re blooming so beautifully and they smell like heaven.

8. Spray painting toy animals – the usual.

9. Yesterday was my first official day at Anthropologie. It was ridiculously lovely. I smelled a lot of candles and talked to really nice people. Then, this happened. Guess it couldn’t be too perfect.

Happy Saturday! Hope you all get a good rest from the week. I’m devoting this weekend to Etsy and a new blog design. Before you roll your eyes and say, “again?” let me just say that it’s not a complete redesign. I’m just changing up the color scheme and adding some things that I’m suuupper excited about! I can’t wait to finish. :)

Baby Goats (enough said)

04/03/2013 by Jennifer 7 Comments

About a week ago, after Molly passed away, my mom and I spent a day at my aunt and uncle’s cottage. I’ve said it before and I will say it again – it’s a place where dreams come true. I mean, we held baby goats all day. So, here are a bajillion pictures:

That weekend was really sad, but also very peaceful. Funny how life works out like that.
