Fictional Style | Betty Suarez

07/22/2014 by Jennifer 5 Comments

Today’s lady of the day is Betty Suarez – unlikely fashionista and ultimate fictional bestie. I jumped on the Ugly Betty bandwagon many years after the show was tragically cancelled in 2010, but I’m so glad I did! Betty Suarez is, in a word, my hero. She sees the best in everyone even when they’re the worst (talking to you, Wilhelmina). I feel like if we were friends we would throw the most colorful, happy fiestas together. And I just love how she embraces her crazy, mismatch style and never compromises who she is for anyone. On the show her style is deemed ugly, but in real life we all know she would be featured on style blogs left and right.

1. Flirt Clear Red Frame Glasses – Asos (out of stock)
2. Yellow Bowknot Wool Blend Coat – SheInside $33.06
3. Butterfly Enclosure Wedge in Grey – ModCloth $109.99
4. Zoom Bisou Top in Miami – ModCloth $39.99
5. Tights for Every Occasion in Cobalt – ModCloth $14.99
6. Ponte Pencil Skirt – Mango $39.99

I would wear any of these items separately but I know my girl Betty would happily wear them all together, looking and feeling fabulous. Don’t you just wish she could come out of the TV and be a BFF to all of us? I certainly do.

Fictional Style | Shoshanna Shapiro from Girls

04/15/2014 by Jennifer Leave a Comment

Do you guys watch Girls?! I watched it all in a very short amount of time, which is not necessarily shameful since there aren’t too many episodes. I love discussing this show any chance I get. It’s just so good and so applicable to real life. Then again, I could apply even the most outlandish show to real life. It’s a talent. ;) One of my favorite things to do with the show Girls is to cast all of my friends. The conversation usually goes something like this:

Me: Sara, I think you’re more like Marnie. Oh my gosh Katie, you are TOTES Jessa!
Friends: Okay, Shosh…

For those of you who don’t watch the show, Shoshanna Shapiro is a very girly college student who tags along with the other girls. She always dresses like she should be going to a vintage themed tea party. Upon meeting her, most people consider her young and naive, but she is actually very intelligent and amazing at standing up for herself. If you’ve watched all of this past season, we can probably agree that she is one of the most sane, level-headed characters. Simply put – I’d be honored to be compared to Shoshanna any day. :)

1. Crystal Feather Teardrop Earrings – J.Crew $68.00
2. Diagonal Alley Coat in Black – ModCloth $139.99
3. Awe-Inspired Aqua Dress – ModCloth $64.99
4. Deborah Lippmann ‘Girls’ Polish in Shoshanna (!!) – Nordstrom (currently unavailable)
5. Daisy Jacquard Court Shoe – Oasis £55
6. Tocca Mini Eau De Parfum in Colette – Anthropologie $18.00
7. Mossimo Supply Co. Bow Belt – Target $14.99
8. Shell Pink Knitted Cocoon Cardigan – New Look £19.99
9. Dainty Delight Headband in Ivory – Modcloth $16.99

How fab are those earrings? I think they are my favorites on the list. That perfume is also my go-to.

Oh! And a post about Shoshanna wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the hair:

Have a great day, friends! :)

Fictional Style | Dr. Mindy Lahiri, The Mindy Project

01/29/2014 by Jennifer 4 Comments

First of all, I hope you all love The Mindy Project and saw the last episode (and freaked out like I did). Oh my gosh. If you’re not a fan, then go watch it! I love it so much. There are many times during the day that I think Dr. Mindy Lahiri is probably my spirit guide. I mean, the lady calls herself Beyonce Pad Thai. There’s nothing better than that.

When I told my roommate I wanted to blog about Mindy’s style, she asked how that would even be possible since Mindy’s wardrobe has no consistency. I think that is what makes it fun though! No rules. Mindy’s style = bright patterns, sequins, polka dots, sweatshirts, scrubs, leather, etc. No consistency at all. I also feel the same way about my style. I’m coming to the conclusion that I can’t really put a label on it. Sometimes I dress super plain and simple without accessories. Other times, I wear blouses covered with things like sparkly mushrooms. Sometimes I feel like wearing leather leggings. And on the good days, I wear pajamas all day.

Even more than her taste in clothes, I appreciate Mindy’s constant references to pop culture, whether they’re about Olivia Pope, The Hunger Games or Katy Perry. Glad to know I’m not the only one who tries to sneak those into every day conversation.

Anyway, back to her style:

1. Girl Talk Bobbi Set – Ban.do $15.00
2. NDG | Fashion Glasses, Coco – Oliver Peoples $315.00
3. Jeweled Chandelier Sweatshirt – J.Crew $198.00 (Mindy wore this one while working out a couple episodes ago. She called the jewels “performance rhinstones”. Obvi)
4. Posie Print Silk Crepe Neck Tie Blouse – Orla Kiely £124.00
5. Jumbled Sequins Dress – Nicole Miller $238.00
6. Bee Bling Studs – Furbish Studio $18.00
7. Twiggy Floral Collar – BaubleBar $36.00
8. ‘Charles Street – Audrey’ Leather Satchel – Kate Spade $398.00
9. Leopard Print Suede Pumps – THE OUTNET (sold out)

How do you feel about this eclectic kind of wardrobe? Do you have any go-to items or does your style change a little every day?

ps. After writing this, I coincidentally read Katie’s post on ever-changing style at Skunkboy Blog. I think lots of us are in the same boat. :)

Fictional Style | Bree Van De Kamp, Desperate Housewives

01/15/2014 by Jennifer 4 Comments

So if I haven’t mentioned this already, I love TV! I watch too much of it, and I don’t even feel guilty. Currently, I am binge-watching Desperate Housewives on Netflix. My mom used to watch it and would always shush me. Now I understand why. With most shows, you have to give it four or five episodes to really get hooked. My friend Steph says, “Never judge a show by its pilot” which is beyond true.

The thing is, I was drawn into Desperate Housewives within the first five minutes. It’s so intriguing!

Out of all the lady characters, Bree Van De Kamp is probably my favorite. They are all crazy and she’s no exception. Bree’s prim and proper personality is nothing like mine but at the same time, I love her style. Out of all the ladies on the show, I think her wardrobe is the most noteworthy. I can’t recall what anyone else wears on the show, but I can remember some of Bree’s specific outfits. If I could go back to 2004 and somehow be a stylist for the show, I’d be sure to put these things in Miss Van De Kamp’s closet:

1. Large Bow Wool Felt Cloche – Nordstrom $42.00
2. An Elegant Affair Peplum Dress – Ruche $78.99
3. P.A.R.O.S.H. Coat – YOOX $425.00
4. Floral Crocheted Collared Shirt – Oasap #33.99
5. Duo-Pop Satchel – Anthropologie $398.00
6. Charter School Cardigan in Sage – ModCloth $34.99
7. Peach Picking Flat – ModCloth $34.99
8. Pearl Cluster Necklace – J.Crew $88.00
I know that her style evolves through the seasons but I’m only on Season 3, so shhh! No spoilers. :)
