On The Blog Market

02/04/2015 by Jennifer Leave a Comment

If you haven’t noticed, things have been a little slooowww around here since the launch of The Blog Market. Lately I’ve been writing there as well as working on a few design projects that I can’t wait to share with you. But in the mean time, here is a recap of what’s been goin’ on over at TBM.

1. I started sharing weekly coding tutorials and I’m always so happy to freely nerd out about CSS and HTML. My favorite tutorial to write has been this one on creating hover effects with CSS.

CSS Basics: Adding Hover Effects

2. Exciting news! Angela, who blogs at If Found, Make., has joined me in co-running The Blog Market. We have been having so much fun strategizing and coming up with creative content for both bloggers and small business owners. As a freelancer and handmade shop owner, Angela knows a thing or two about running a business. One of my favorite posts she’s written so far is a collection of photography resources for Etsy sellers.

3. As a more simplified version of my collage screencast tutorial, I created this basic Photoshop tutorial on erasing product backgrounds. Perfect for if you’re a shop owner or if you just love creating roundups like I do. :)

4. Angela’s post 8 Reasons to Have more Fun with Your Blog totally resonated with me. Blogging should be fun, especially when it’s something you do in your free time and not your full-time job. However, sometimes we get so stressed out about the little things. In this post, Angela shows how having more fun with your blog can actually help your blog grow and flourish.

Hope you’re all enjoying February so far. :)

Design Spotlight | Leah Duncan

01/20/2015 by Jennifer 1 Comment

Good morning! I began this series over at The Blog Market a couple weeks ago but then decided it made more sense to carry it on here. I’m so inspired by patterns lately and have been learning Illustrator to get on the pattern bandwagon myself. So much fun! One of my favorite surface pattern designers is Leah Duncan. The way she combines colors, nature, and geometric shapes is the prettiest.

Be Free, Lance.

01/15/2015 by Jennifer Leave a Comment

Hey all! This week, I’ve embarked on an intensive freelance learning sesh with the online workshop Be Free, Lance. It’s being led by Breanna Rose and Jen Serafini, both of whom I respect and admire a ton. I’m so excited to learn, grow and figure out how to do what I love with the time and resources I have.

Be Free, Lance.

In blogging news, I’ve been putting my energy more toward The Blog Market, but I’m ready to balance things out a bit and come back to Earl Grey. In the coming weeks, I’ll be posting more design-related projects and inspiration. I’m also going to focus on crafting without the intention of creating sharable finished projects. Making crafty messes without caring who sees it is so very good for the soul. :)

All Things Brass

01/12/2015 by Jennifer 2 Comments

Over the past couple months, I’ve developed the biggest crush on brass. At Schoolhouse Electric, I’m constantly surrounded by it and it never gets old. I’ve never been into anything in silver or nickel. Gold and brass finishes are forever the best in my book.

Sooo much stuff I love! Do you love brass, or do you have another favorite finish?

Last Minute Christmas Crafts

12/19/2014 by Jennifer 4 Comments

The holiday season is a sneaky time of year. Unless we start getting into the holiday season late summer (kudos to all of you shop owners who plan ahead!), Christmas time is always surprising.  I love the idea of Christmas crafting and some years I get really into it, but I usually feel very rushed. If you are like me and tend to wait until the last minute to get festive, here are a few quick holiday craft ideas. Most of these can double as gifts, which is a win-win in my book. :)

2. 10 DIY Holiday Gift Tag Ideas
3. Christmas Gift Box Ornaments
4. Sparkly Star Garland
5. Felt Heart Ornaments
6. Christmas Silhouette Wall Art
7. Glitter Ornaments
8. Instagram Ornaments
9. Felt Star Tree Topper

This year I surprised myself and did zero Christmas crafts. I feel good about it! It’s been a season of change, and it was nice to take a break from something without any regrets.

Hope you’re having the happiest of holidays.
