Organizing Craft Supplies with Kitchen Items

08/12/2014 by Jennifer 7 Comments

I haven’t been feeling inspired in the DIY department lately, so the other day I took all of my craft supplies out to examine what I had. My supplies are usually stored in little plastic bins. Nothing cute. I just keep them in my closet area. But I do love finding ways to display some craft supplies in a way that doesn’t make a cluttered mess.

On this day, I noticed some turquoise fruit crates from Whole Foods on top of my fridge and thought, “Hey! My paint would look really pretty in those crates.” Suddenly, I was completely carried away and many more supplies found homes in my overflow of kitchen items.

The best thing about combining my craft and kitchen supplies is that it makes me look like less of a hoarder. I don’t need all those vintage glasses I found at the Goodwill, but if they serve multiple purposes (like holding paint brushes, crochet hooks, and pens) then perhaps they can stick around. :)

Do you have any quirky ways you like to display your craft supplies? I’d love to hear your ideas. Also, what’s your favorite remedy for getting out of a creative slump?

Have a good start to your week!

Absolutely adorable, yet organized. Love it! I’m thinking about moving my craft suplies out where I can see them so that I can maybe use them more, plus they’re super cute & would add a nice touch to the room. Now to start gathering my materials!

Oh gosh I also need to look like less of a hoarder :D I wish we had those cute crates in South Africa. I like to use vintage tins for storage, but I need to start labelling them because I can’t remember what I put in which tin anymore.

Ooh vintage tins sound cute! Yeah, even using clear plastic boxes I would still forget where certain supplies were haha.

Love this post!! I cover shoe boxes with beautiful photos torn out of magazines, and I love how that both displays the paper and uses up the boxes. I chuck most of my supplies in those. :) Creative slumps are tough; I do best by dramatically lowering my standards, and giving myself a silly time limit. For example, I’m primarily a writer, and I’ll kickstart my work by letting myself write crap for a brisk fifteen minutes… totally helps! Being messy and quick brings out the kid in me. Soon I’m playing and then inventing. :) Good luck breaking out of yours!!

P.S., found you through Instagram; love your photos!
