Crafty Christmas | DIY Christmas Gift Box Ornaments

12/20/2013 by Jennifer 1 Comment

At one of my holiday work meetings, we were taught how to perfectly wrap a gift box. It was so much fun even though I couldn’t really replicate that technique at all when I got home and tried wrapping real gifts. This tutorial has nothing to do with that gift wrapping technique but it was inspired by it. :)

To make the boxes, print out a small box template (I found mine here via google images) onto card stock paper and cut it out. Then use glue or a tape runner to attach the plain side of the template to the wrong side of a decorative sheet of paper. Cut out the template again, fold along the dotted lines, and assemble. I used a double-sided tape runner to attach it but dabs of hot glue would also work. It’s pretty self explanatory, just make sure that the opening part of the box doesn’t have “wings”. At least I’m calling them wings. In the photo below, you would want to keep the left flap free of tape or hot glue so that the box can open and close.

After putting the boxes together, you can add tiny gifts if you’d like to use them as actually gift boxes rather than just decorative ornaments. These would be great as little jewelry boxes. They are also the perfect shape for the hedgehog shaped lip balms I just bought for my sisters. Fun stuff. :)

Tie up the boxes with ribbon, twine, yarn, or all of the above. Then hang them on the tree with ornament hooks or string.

I love the idea of having presents hiding on the tree instead of just under it.

Five more days!! Are you finished with your Christmas shopping/crafting? I’m not. Thankfully I ended up with the day off so that it was I’ll be doing all afternoon. :)
