Campus Book Rentals

02/04/2014 by Jennifer Leave a Comment

Today, I’m so happy to be partnering once again with the amazing company Campus Book Rentals! When I was in college, I spent so much money on textbooks. Tuition costs and living expenses are already so extreme, so to cut out the price of textbooks would be a dream. I didn’t rent any books during school, but I so wish that I had. Campus Book Rentals will save you 40-90% off of regular textbook prices and the shipping is free both ways. Oh and you can highlight in the books! Yay for great study habits. :)

Campus Book Rentals also has a brand new program called Rent Back, which allows students to rent their books to other students and make 2-4x as much money compared to what they would make for sure sending the books back at the end of the semester. Brilliant.

My favorite thing about Campus Book Rentals is that with each textbook rented, the company donates to Operation Smile, an organization that helps heal the smiles of children with cleft lips or palettes. Having this condition can cause ear disease and dental problems, as well as make it difficult for a child to speak or eat. Operation Smile is a loving and growing organization, holding offices in over 35 countries and 5,000 medical volunteers.

Here’s a nifty video explaining how this textbook renting system works:

Have any of you college folk rented textbooks before? It seems like such a smart idea!

Interview with Paula from Plum Pretty You

02/03/2014 by Jennifer 1 Comment

Happy February! This year is flying right by. I would like to start off the month by introducing you to my amazing sponsor, Plum Pretty You. This beautiful jewelry shop is thoughtfully curated by Paula, a lovely lady who lives in Canada. I am so glad that I was able to meet Paula this month and find out all about her fab shop. :)

How did you first get started in the jewelry making business?
I was looking for something I could do at home with my 2 little girls. This allows me to work around their schedules!

Where do you go for inspiration?
I try and find pieces that are unique. I usually find pieces that catch my eye that you don’t see everyone walking around with!

What has been the biggest challenge in growing your business?
Because this is something new I am doing – I am finding it hard to get my name out there. But with my facebook page and going to local craft sales I am finding it’s slowly coming along!

What are your hopes and dreams for the future of Plum Pretty You?
I hope that we grow into a one stop shop for special treasures. It’s easy to run out to a store and purchase the same old pieces that everyone on the block has – but finding something truly individualized is what we want to do!

Any advice for shop owners or jewelry makers?
Find things that you love and that make you happy – chances are it will do the same for others just the same.

You can see all of the jewelry available by visiting and liking Plum Pretty You on Facebook.

Thanks so much for the interview, Paula. Your shop is wonderful! :)

I AM Enlightened Creations: Liquid Supplements

11/30/2013 by Jennifer 1 Comment

Lately, I have encountered a lot of people who are getting very serious about their holiday shopping already. And I admire it. I’m definitely a procrastinator when it comes getting people checked off of my Christmas list. This year, I am really trying to be better. :)

Thankfully I have a lot of ideas for gifts, including a great line of liquid supplements from I AM Enlightened Creations. Recently, I was asked to review a few samples of the supplements and I didn’t really know what to say because, well, liquid supplements can be a little sketchy. I researched these a lot and really liked the ingredients and ideas behind them so I went ahead and said yes.

I AM Enlightened Creations is a company run by a husband and wife team, Eric Schnell and Marci Zaroff-Schnell, who are well-versed in the world of holistic nutrition. Fun fact: In 1996, Marci coined and trademarked the term “ECOfashion”. She knows what’s up. Together, she and Eric have created the I AM brand, which consists of liquid supplement, chakra flower elixirs, and chakra crystal mists.

Here’s a bit about the supplements I sampled and what I thought of each one:

The first bottle I reached for was “I AM Focused”. For the past few weeks, I have been so so busy with work and blog/shop deadlines. One day, I had the day off so I decided to devote the day to my blog e-courses, along with a bunch of other priorities at home. After trying the supplement, my first thought was, “Oh yay! It isn’t gross.” Do you remember Squeezits? They were so unhealthy, but so good when we were little? Well, this drink tasted vaguely like a Squeezit, which was really nostalgic for me. However, I drank it knowing that it was truly healthy, unlike those crazy sugar-filled kid’s drinks. For some reason, I thought it would be a good idea to take this in the afternoon/evening. I was definitely focusing on my blog design way past the time I should have gone to bed. Note to self: take this supplement in the morning!

After a few days off from work the other week, my sleep schedule went completely off track. I took this supplement on a night when I knew I’d have to wake up early for work in the morning. I felt sleepy, but it wasn’t like ZzzQuil sleepy. It just helped me to calm down and give myself some rest.

Like I’ve said before, this season doesn’t do a whole lot for my well-being. It isn’t awful all the time, but the gloomy weather does get me down. Sunlight is really important. Anyway, I drank this supplement during a particularly dreary day. It isn’t a magical happy drink by any means. Like the “sleepy” supplement, it kind of mellowed me out so I could pull myself together.

This supplement helped me out during a long work day. I think maybe it gave me too much energy though. Naturally I am energetic at work, or at least I’m talkative. So imagine me at the register with extra energy. I should have taken this before working out or something.

I saved the I AM Skinny supplement for last because I wanted to make sure it was a day that I could intentionally be active. I tried it out earlier this week after work/before working out. When I say “working out”, I mean two YouTube videos. But they work for me and I love them. I’m not really sure how to evaluate this one because it is meant to be taken as a part of a diet plan. I wasn’t like, “Ahhh, I need to work out forever!” But I will tell you that it was the best tasting of all the supplements. Yum, yum.

Overall, I’m a big fan. I love the design and branding. The tastes of the supplements aren’t terrible at all. And most importantly, these supplements do what they say they will do in a way that is natural. I feel good about them. :)

If you go on the I AM Enlightened Creations website, you can see where the products are available near you. I just found out that there might be some at a Whole Foods near me. Definitely going to go get some more of them soon!

Oh AND they are offering you guys 22% off of your entire purchase for the month. Yay!

goodies from gold house paper + press

10/22/2013 by Jennifer 3 Comments

Have I mentioned that I love Gold House Paper + Press? Megan is so talented at hand lettering and makes the most beautiful note cards and prints. I absolutely love having GHP as a sponsor. Recently, I was sent a couple of pretty cards and a notecard set.

I used to be better at writing handwritten letters and I was always so thrilled whenever I got a letter in return. Getting anything in the mail is just really exciting to me. But I guess life got in the way and honestly, I don’t remember the last time I sent out a letter in the mail. So, I am considering these beauties my new motivation. I seriously can’t wait to send these out to a bunch of friends this fall. Lettering writing is so special and even more so when it is on amazing stationary.

Thank you so, so much Gold House Paper + Press! I’m in love with each of these.

Be sure to check out the GHP website and facebook page.

Guest Post | Adproval Makes Use of Wood Pallets in Home Office

10/14/2013 by Jennifer Leave a Comment

A while ago, I switched to Adproval for my ad management website. It is easy to use, it’s visually appealing, and most importantly – it’s free! Yay! Matthew, the founder of Adproval, is here to share a few glimpses of his living room-turned-studio, particularly the crafty uses of wood pallets.

Hey hey! I’m Matthew, the founder of Adproval. We are an online service that makes it super easy for bloggers to sell their ad space and super easy for advertisers to find the perfect blogs to work with. As an online company, our team has the luxury of working remotely as much as we want! So, in addition to holding office space in a few co-working spaces around town, my living room has been converted into a home office. While this makes my morning commute wonderfully short (about 12 steps), it has taken a bit of the character out of our living room since the center of the room is now filled with desks and computers.

I wanted to create a cozy space against one wall for taking breaks to get out from behind a computer screen. The goal was to create a relaxing sitting area for reading and listening to music. I had been harboring a few wood pallets that I’ve been trying to decide what to do with for awhile, so I offered myself bonus points if I could incorporate them into this project!

Here’s the final result:

Overall, I’d say it was a success! I used two pallets flat on the ground to create a platform for my favorite old lazy boy chair and record player to stand. This created a distinguished area separate from the rest of the room. The bulk of the living room turned office is taken up by a sofa and tables and desks with computer monitors. By elevating the chair and record player as a sitting, it helps steal some attention away from the mess of computer monitors and cables throughout the rest of the space. The pallets also add a great earthy element to a room otherwise saturated with electronics.

The third pallet I used for this space was fortunately missing a few boards making it spaced perfectly to be used as a bookshelf and magazine rack! It is simply standing upright and leaning against the wall. The top slots easily allow magazines to be slid between the space. Then, in the middle portion where the majority of books are, I took two small board and screwed them into the back of the pallet horizontally so that they would create a flat platform for the books to sit on when the pallet was leaned against the wall. Plenty of room for bigger books in the space below, too! If your pallet doesn’t already have spaces, I imagine some prying with a crow bar or work with a saw could create the gaps needed to create your own little pallet bookshelf. And, as you can see, Adproval’s puppy mascot FutureMan loves the space, too :)

It is still a work in progress, but so far it has served as a great retreat to get away from the glare of computer screens, even though it is just a few steps away.

I’d love to know how anyone else has used wood pallets in their home projects! Any tips for how we could make better use of our space? Any tips in general for creating a peaceful retreat within a home office?

Thanks a million!
