The Blog Market | WordPress Design & Development

11/13/2015 by Jennifer Leave a Comment

What a busy (and fun) week it’s been! On Monday, Angela and I relaunched The Blog Market with a new design that we’ve been working on for months and months. If you don’t already know about The Blog Market, it’s basically my other home. Now that I’ve turned Earl Grey into more of a website and portfolio, The Blog Market is where I share coding tutorials, blogging tips, etc. Angela from If Found, Make. co-runs the site with me and shares wonderful advice for small business owners and bloggers on TBM. This site started out as a small side project and has been growing immensely every month! Who woulda thought. :)

So about the design, we really wanted to make it more interactive than just a list of blog posts. We added three featured posts up top, more sidebar widgets, reader favorites at the bottom, and more! I’m really happy with how it all turned out and I’m especially swooning hard over our new color palette, which includes coral, peach, and the prettiest deep teal. I love coming up with new color schemes! Even if it takes a lifetime to come to a decision.

In addition to our main page, we revamped all other pages including the resources directory, the about page, and a newly added archive where you can view all of our posts by category. We also included a new Shop Our Favorites page, where we’re sharing our favorite workspace accessories and tools. Check out the new site and let me know what you think!

Well I’m off to the coast for a girl’s weekend. My 25th birthday is Sunday so I figured the best way to celebrate would be at my favorite foresty beach town in Oregon. We’re staying in a small cottage with a hot tub (!!!) and I’m so flippin’ excited.

Happy weekend!

Luminary Retreats WordPress Development

10/09/2015 by Jennifer Leave a Comment

Hey guys! So happy to finally be sharing this BIG project with you! Over the past month, I’ve been working with Amber and Cara of Luminary Retreats to develop their beautiful WordPress website and blog. These ladies radiate positivity and compassion, have a strong vision for their business, and have amazing taste in design (which made this project very exciting to work on).

So what is Luminary? Luminary is an 8-week course that includes a 7-day retreat in the wine country of California and 7 weeks of pre and post-retreat content. Honestly, while coding up the site, I couldn’t help but feel like this retreat was made for me. Cara and Amber really know their stuff and are fully committed to empowering women to reach their full potential in their relationships, personal contentment, and work in the world.

The Beach House Kitchen WordPress Blog Design

07/09/2015 by Jennifer 5 Comments

Over the past month, I’ve been working on a very special project. Like I said, I have been lucky to work with lots of lovely food bloggers this year. It’s wonderful for so many reasons. I love getting to learn about a type of blogging that is pretty unfamiliar to me. Also, it is really inspiring to design around such beautiful, crisp food photographs. Another plus – I always end up with a plethora of tasty recipes to add to my list of things to try.

This past month, I worked with Mary Ann of The Beach House Kitchen to create a clean, fully-customized WordPress blog design. For the blog design, we began with the Genesis Framework and Foodie Pro Theme. We began by creating a color palette of nautical navy and gray hues with the softer addition of pink. I’m still dreaming about this color palette and want to incorporate it into my workspace big time.

Mary Ann worked with Rickety Robot to design her anchor logo. Don’t you love the spoon and knife touch? I’m also so glad we added the sand element to the header! This was Mary Ann’s idea. Love how it ties in the beachy theme.

Take a look at the entire site here! If you’re a fellow foodie, check out my favorite recipes on The Beach House Kitchen:

Bourbon White Peach Popsicles
Berry Cobbler with Sweet Biscuit Topping
The Charleston Fizz
Loaded Berry Smoothie

Perfect for summer get-togethers, huh? Those popsicles are for sure making an appearance at the next BBQ I attend. All of Mary Ann’s recipes are absolutely divine and I would enjoy them beachside any day.

Broma Bakery | WordPress Theme Customization

06/09/2015 by Jennifer Leave a Comment

Lately I have found myself working with a lot of food bloggers and it is amazingly inspiring! Blogging takes a lot of work no matter what, but I can’t believe how many steps go into food blogging. A while ago, I had the opportunity to work with Sarah of Broma Bakery on a WordPress theme customization. She began with the Genesis Framework and Foodie Pro Theme, and we coded the details up from there. Sarah was such a joy to work with! She knew her style completely and that made the whole process flow so well.

Our color palette remained neutral for the most part with gray-blues and charcoals but we added in a pretty gold texture to brighten things up:

Take a look at the rest of the site here! Here are some of my favorite recipes by Sarah:

Lavender Banana Bread
Bourbon Peach Pancakes
Honey Lavender Popsicles
Blueberry Basil French Toast Cups

Sheesh. All of her posts are TOO good.

The Baking Bird | Logo Design + Theme Customization

05/25/2015 by Jennifer 3 Comments

Once upon a time in March, Kylie of The Baking Bird reached out on Instagram in search of a designer to create a new logo and customize her beautiful blog. My good friend Bee tagged me in the IG post, but I was like, “yeeaah right, that’s a long shot.” Well! Kylie ended up sending me an email later that night and I was so excited to have a new bloggy friend and an awesome new project here in Portland.

Kylie mentioned that she kept getting tired of her blog designs and logos and wanted something that she could keep for a long time. I can relate to that all too well. Soon after Kylie emailed, my design partner in crime Laura and I met up with her for coffee and treats. We bounced ideas off of each other and got a feel for what Kylie wanted in her design. We decided to use lots of copper in the logo and worked on making her blog look clean and pretty, but not too dainty.

Working on this project was the best. Click here to see the full blog customization and drool over all of Kylie’s marvelous recipes. These are just a few of my favorites:

St Germain Grapefruit Margarita
Cardamom Rolls with Pistachio Rose Frosting
Lavender Lemon Curd Marbled Cheesecake
Salted Lavender Honey Pie

What the heck, right? YUM.

If Found, Make. | WordPress Development

05/11/2015 by Jennifer Leave a Comment

Earlier this year, I worked with my good friend Angela (who blogs at If Found, Make. and also on The Blog Market with me) on developing a theme out of her WordPress design! From the start, she had a really clear vision of what she wanted in a blog design. Something simple and free of clutter, but still pretty.

Here is a dreamy mood board we created based on the look and feel we wanted for If Found, Make:

Dreamy Moodboard | Earl Grey Blog

We ended up going for less blue-grays and more neutral-pinkish colors. Angela and I are a lot alike in that we never want to settle for something we don’t truly love. We revised this design like crazy to get it just right. (Angela’s beautiful logo was created by Alexandra Em Designs!)

Check out the full blog design here and have fun getting lost scrolling through all of Angela’s amazing DIYs and style posts! Girl is seriously so talented.
