our dark night becomes a sunrise of joy

04/30/2011 by Jennifer Leave a Comment

Yesterday we met with “mixed feelings” at Linda’s home-going celebration. We wanted it to be a joyous time with lots of smiles and funny stories and hugs. When joy and sorrow meet, it is the most beautiful thing. I kept wondering how I felt. Sad? No. Happy? Hmm…no. Thankful. Yes, that’s it. Thankful.

Thank you, Jesus, for my wonderful aunt Linda, for family and friends, and for the peace you’ve let settle in our souls.

I thought it would be nice to make something for the service. A keepsake. So, I put my new paper and my heart punch to work and made little cards. They can be used as bookmarks or magnets. I ended up with a million extras, so hooray! Bookmarks for days…

Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. and you know the way to where I am going.
John 14:1-4

The burial took place this morning and I wish I could give you an idea of how special it was to me. Just imagine… gold, ribbons of purple and blue, roses, soil, green grass, words of hope, family, and sunlight.

And now, we press on and remember how precious life is.

california dreamin’

Last night, my roommate Steph made something really nice and California-related (to be announced!) and it got me thinking about how beautiful this state is. The shape of it. The land within it. The ocean. The people. I daydream of living in foreign countries or in the Pacific Northwest, but I think I will always come back to California.

One of these days, I think I will share all of my favorite places in the golden state. For now, I’ll just share some pretty pictures :)

oh, the places you’ll go!

In approximately twenty-two days, I will be on my way to Rome followed by a Mediterranean cruise :) I haven’t been very up to date on the pre-travel stuff because life has been crazy, so now I need to sit down and actually think about paperwork, packing, etc.
On my list of travel essentials, I will definitely include:
  • My camera
  • Some friends
  • Euros
  • Easily compressed clothing
  • Burts Bees
And that’s all I need, right?
The other day, I came across these globes and I have added them to my dream house wish list:

I especially like the one with butterflies. I used to be afraid of butterflies (I know, embarrassing), but I am getting used to them.
These are made from vintage globes that are no longer geographically accurate. I wanna do this. Summer project!

so many possibilities

My favorite kind of crafts are paper crafts. I loooovvee paper. For the past week, my mom has been annoyed with me always wanting her to go to Michael’s with me. But today, she needed to go there. I tried not to get carried away, but then I stumbled upon some beautiful paper. I really do need to learn to say no.

Also, this weekend I got a camera strap in the mail via Lucilia @ bonecalinda
Pretty :)
So this week will be a paper kind of week.

easter weekend!

04/25/2011 by Jennifer 2 Comments

My weekend was beautiful.

Davis Farmer’s Market
Looooook! I used to sing this all the time. You know, back in kindergarten.
This is real :)

So adorable.
Yesterday, I went on a little shopping adventure with Sara.  I couldn’t resist, plus Gap was having a 40% off everything sale. I’m so ready for summer :)
Anyway, this morning I woke up to a yummy cup of coffee straight from Guatemala (thanks Sara!) in a bunny mug. Then, my mother and I attended an Easter service at the United Methodist Church of Davis. It was great. Soooo many hymns!
The church had a super cute garden
As for the “crafty” part of my blog, I’m not being as consistent as I hoped. I have been crocheting the same dang thing over and over again, but someday (tomorrow??) I’ll have something crafty to post. I’m also doing some Linda-related crafts this week for the service.
Tomorrow is the last day of spring break. When I go back to school, I’ll delve into papers and projects and then…summertime :) beautiful weather, walks at night, road trips, Europe, dresses, leisure reading, taking care of my mama. I know I’m idealizing. (I always end up with too much free time.)
Hope everyone had a good Easter, and I’ll leave you with my favorite hymn of the day:
Up from the grave He arose,

With a mighty triumph o’er His foes,
He arose a Victor from the dark domain,
And He lives forever, with His saints to reign.
He arose! He arose!
Hallelujah! Christ arose!

my aunt linda

Today, we went through hundreds of family photos. Linda was such a pretty lady!

(left side: Linda & my mom)

(Grandma, Grandpa, Linda, Mom, Debbie, Karen, & Steve)

Gah. So beautiful.
This last one was taken more recently…well, sixteen years ago maybe. Linda loved animals so, so much. Even the other day, she made sure I didn’t squish a tiny bug that was crawling on the floor.
On this day, Linda, my cousin Keele, and I went out to promote endangered animal awareness. Aaaahhhh!  This is my absolute favorite.
I am obsessed with my family. I wish everyone could meet them… The past few days have been the scariest, saddest days that any of us have experienced. But now Linda is with Jesus. I just wish I could see it.
A couple of days ago, she prayed for extended life so that she could serve God and make a difference, but holy moly, she has changed more lives than I will ever be able to count.
PS. I think I’ll make a habit of posting old family photos. They are wonderful ♥
