In Between Seasons

09/16/2014 by Jennifer 12 Comments

Many people welcome autumn on September 1st, with the arrival of pumpkin spice lattes and the anticipation of sweater weather. But I’m stubbornly set on celebrating autumn on September 23rd. I need to embrace every last bit of summer.

In Between Seasons | Earl Grey Blog

That doesn’t mean I’m not excited for the coming season. Both seasons are equally my favorites and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to choose. They bring out different sides of me. Summer is light, easy, fun, and sun-filled. Autumn is deep, rich, and nostalgic.

I’ve created a tiny list of five things I want to do during the remainder of summer. I know, I know. Leave it to me to write this list with one week left of summer. But I’ll continue to act like it’s summertime as long as it’s a bajillion degrees outside.

Before Summer is Over:
1. Find a pool
2. Go on a hike
3. Roast marshmallows
4. Play in the sprinklers with Copper
5. Attend a crazy confetti filled concert in LA

Okay I cheated, the last two have already been planned. :)

Are you sad to say goodbye to summer or are you looking forward to hot drinks and rainy days?

Well, it’s 100 degrees in Los Angeles right now – so I’m almost convinced summer never ends here.

    Again with those pretty watercolors!

Oh my gosh! I’m going down to LA in a couple days actually and I am not prepared clothing-wise. Eek! Summer forever, haha.

I totally agree! It’s definitely not fall yet– especially in LA! I guess we might as well enjoy this scorching hot weather:)

It’s true! I’m sure we’ll all be missing this hot weather once it gets cold and gloomy.

Just stumbled across your blog! I love it. And then I read that you are also stubbornly waiting until it is officially fall to celebrate it. Me too. I am finishing up my summer bucket list and I am not ready to accept that summer is over. Though I’m finding it a little harder to resist those cozy layers and rustic meals this week. :) XO- Alexandra

I’m so glad you stumbled upon it! Excited to check yours out too. Yes, summer still gets to show us its glory for a few more days. :)

I’m already half-way through a jug of apple cider (I blend it with chai tea, so good!!), and I’m wearing a cardigan and warm slippers so… I guess autumn’s my vote! ;)

That sounds amazing!! It just started raining where I am so I guess I need to grab a blanket and embrace the end of summer. It’s so bittersweet!

You can’t imagine how happy you make me by saying that summer lasts until the end of September! I cringe when I read bloggers saying goodbye to summer when August comes to its end (or even by the middle of August!!!)! And especially this year since July and August were miserable, with a moody and rainy weather, while September has been so hot and sunny! I really like September as it is usually a very sunny month in France! Of course, with all the “back to school” stuff, it’s hard to remain into Summer mood. Swimming pools are usually closed by this time, night is falling too early and the air becomes too crisp for barbecue parties, but there’s still plenty of time to enjoy a cocktail outside at the end of the day, go for a bike tour or do a bit of sunbathing in a park, and if you want to go on vacations this is the perfect time (if you don’t have kids, that it) because you are avoiding all of the Summer tourists! Sure, there are signs that autumn will come eventually, but I like this (I actually like every season and enjoy to see the never endig ballet of seasons’ change). I think September and October are two favourite months of mine, as you can still enjoy sunny days without being too hot, the light is usually beautiful at that time of the year ans the trees are slowly turning red. And you can slowly get ready for colder months, there’s a soothing, cosy feeling in these months that I enjoy very much. It the time for the first bowls of soup, comforting apple crumbles, layering outfits… Ah, I am so ready for autumn as you see, but it will comes when the time is right. At the moment, summer is still there and I’m stuffing my face with tomatoes and zucchinis before giving pumpkin a go!

While fall is my favorite season, I also hang on to summer until the very end. My birthday is the 23rd, so it has always fallen on the first day of autumn. I love thinking of my birthday as the start of a new season and a new year, which is perhaps why I refuse to give up on summer until the first day of autumn.

That makes so much sense! The arrival of autumn is like a yearly birthday present for you. :) Happy birthday!
